There Is an EASY Way to Save Time at the Orlando Airport, but Nobody Does. Here’s Why.
There’s an easy way to save time at the Orlando Airport, but almost no one does it.
If you’ve ever flown into or out of Orlando International Airport (MCO), you already know how hectic it can be. Between long security lines, packed terminals, and the constant hum of travelers rushing to their gates, MCO can feel like a theme park without the fun part. But here’s the thing, there are a few incredibly easy ways to make your airport experience faster and less stressful. The surprising part? Most people don’t use them. Let’s talk about why.
Not Using MCO Reserve
We’ll start with one of the most underrated time-savers at the airport: MCO Reserve.
This free program lets you book your spot in the TSA line ahead of time. All you do is go online before your flight, pick your flight date and a time slot that works for you, and then when you arrive, you’ll use a special MCO Reserve checkpoint instead of the regular line. It’s quick, easy, and totally free to use (no memberships or special credit cards required).
So why doesn’t everyone use it? Mainly, because they don’t even know it exists. The airport doesn’t advertise it heavily, and unless you’re actively searching for “how to skip security lines at MCO,” you’d probably never find it. And since it sounds almost too good to be true, some travelers assume there’s a catch, but there isn’t. MCO Reserve is available in Terminals A, B, and C, and it can easily shave 20 to 40 minutes off your wait time.
Ignoring TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck is another huge time-saver that many people skip out on. With PreCheck, you can keep your belts and jackets on, and you don’t have to unpack laptops or liquids. The line is usually much shorter than the standard one, and the whole process moves much faster.
So what’s the hold-up? A lot of travelers assume it’s only for “frequent fliers,” or that it’s too much trouble to apply. In reality, it’s a pretty simple process: fill out an online form, schedule a quick appointment, pay $78, and you’re covered for five years. For anyone who flies to Orlando more than once or twice a year, it’s a total game-changer. It’s especially helpful if you’re traveling with little ones, or if you’re already stressed trying to make a park reservation on the same day as your flight.
Skipping Clear
If you want to take things to the next level, there’s Clear. This program uses fingerprint or eye scans to verify your identity, allowing you to skip the ID check and go straight to the security screening area. A Clear representative literally walks you to the front of the line, and if you have TSA PreCheck too, you can combine them for the fastest experience possible.
Still, not many people use it. The main reason? The price. Clear costs $209 per year, and while it’s discounted through some credit cards or loyalty programs, many travelers don’t want to pay that for something they’ll only use once or twice a year. Others just aren’t comfortable with biometric screening technology yet. But for anyone who travels often or hates waiting in lines, it’s absolutely worth it. You’ll walk past hundreds of people, and once you do, you’ll never want to go back.
Not Downloading the MCO App
Here’s one that practically no one talks about, and it’s free. The Orlando International Airport has its own app, and it’s packed with tools that can help you manage your time better before and during your trip.
The MCO app lets you save and track your flight, get real-time updates about delays or gate changes, and even see current security wait times. You can also search for restaurants and shops both before and after security, find parking availability, and even save your parking spot so you don’t lose track of where you left your car.
We especially love the security wait time feature because it gives you a realistic idea of what to expect before you even leave your hotel. If you’re trying to time your rideshare drop-off just right, this app can save you from standing around the terminal for an extra hour. It’s a simple download that can make your airport experience much smoother, but most people skip it because they don’t realize how useful it actually is.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to flying through Orlando, time is one of your most valuable resources. Between long security lines and unpredictable travel days, small changes can make a big difference in how smoothly your trip goes. MCO Reserve, TSA PreCheck, Clear, and the official MCO app are four easy ways to save time, yet so many travelers ignore them because they assume they’re complicated, expensive, or just not worth the effort.
In reality, they’re some of the easiest tools you can use to make your travel day less stressful and more efficient. The next time you’re flying into or out of Orlando, take a few minutes to try one (or a few) of these options. You might just find yourself breezing through security while everyone else is still waiting in line.
