NEWS: Passengers Sue Delta, United Airlines Over ‘Windowless’ Window Seats

Picture this: You’re hopping on the plane to head to your next destination. You’re ready to read your book and gaze out the window while you fly into a new city and adventure. You booked a window seat, but as you find your row, you see there’s no window. Ah!

This has happened one too many times because, according to Reuters, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are being sued by passengers who paid extra to sit in window seats only to discover there are no windows.

The proposed class actions were filed against United Airlines in the San Francisco federal court and Delta Air Lines in the Brooklyn, New York federal court. The passengers are seeking millions of dollars in damages for more than 1 million passengers for each of the airlines.

Most of these complaints were on the Boeing 737, Boeing 757, and Airbus A321 planes since spots that normally have windows have air conditioning ducts, electrical conduits, or other elements.

The passengers are claiming that “Delta and United do not flag these seats during the booking process, unlike rivals such as Alaska Airlines and American Airlines, even when charging tens or occasionally hundreds of dollars for them.

The United complaint said: “Had plaintiffs and the class members known that the seats they were purchasing were windowless, they would not have selected them — much less have paid extra.”

While passengers can use third parties like SeatGuru to find which seats are missing windows, the lawyer representing the lawsuits says it does not excuse Delta and United from providing the information. He said, “A company can’t misrepresent the nature of the products it sells and then rely on third-party reviews to say a customer should have known it was lying.

One passenger leading the lawsuit said that United refunded her additional fees for windowless seats on two flights but not a third.

Delta and United have not yet responded. Keep following DFB for more travel news.
