CHANGE Hits Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Disney World

Magic Kingdom just lost another Lightning Lane Multi Pass option, and it’s a big one.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has closed for an extended refurbishment, which means you now have ONE fewer skip-the-line option at this park. Between this closure and the ongoing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurb, the Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane Multi Pass list is shrinking fast. Let’s break down exactly what’s changed, what’s still available, and how you can adjust your park day strategy.

What’s Going On with Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin?

On August 4th, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially shut down for a refurbishment that will last into 2026. That’s not a typo — you won’t be blasting away at Emperor Zurg again for quite a while. This is a pretty major change for Magic Kingdom because Buzz was one of the Tier 2 attractions available for Lightning Lane Multi Pass, giving guests an easy, mid-tier option to skip a line.

It’s closed!

The closure means one less choice for those lower-tier reservations, and when you combine that with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s absence from the Tier 1 list (also closed into 2026), the pool of attractions you can book ahead of time with Multi Pass just got smaller.

If you’ve been in the parks lately, you know these small changes can totally shift how busy certain rides get. When one attraction is out of the mix, that demand has to go somewhere, and that “somewhere” is now going to be other rides on both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 lists.

What is the Lightning Lane Multi Pass Again?

If you’re new to all this, here’s the quick rundown. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is an optional, paid service available through the My Disney Experience app. It lets you reserve access to the Lightning Lane (that’s the skip-the-line queue) for multiple attractions in advance. You choose from two tiers of attractions in each park — one “big ticket” Tier 1 pick and two additional picks from the Tier 2 list.

Think of it as the modern replacement for the old FastPass system, except now it costs extra and comes with more strategy involved in picking your lineup.

What the Magic Kingdom Multi Pass List Looks Like Now

With Buzz Lightyear out of commission, here’s what’s left.

Tier 1 (choose ONE):

  • Jungle Cruise
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Space Mountain
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tier 2 (choose TWO or more):

  • The Barnstormer
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Haunted Mansion
  • “it’s a small world”
  • Mad Tea Party
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid

Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane

Normally, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin would be on that Tier 2 list, giving you another solid choice in Tomorrowland that’s family-friendly and indoors (aka, air-conditioned bliss). Without it, that means more guests will likely head to Pirates, Haunted Mansion, or Pooh for their second-tier selections.

How This Impacts Your Park Strategy

The first and most obvious change: standby waits for some Tier 2 attractions are probably going to creep up. Haunted Mansion and Pirates are already high-demand rides in the summer, and losing Buzz is only going to make those lines longer.

If you’re building your Multi Pass plan, here’s what we recommend:

  • Prioritize your Tier 2 picks carefully. If you want Haunted Mansion or Pirates, lock those in early before they’re gone.
  • Don’t ignore the “kiddie” rides. Dumbo, Barnstormer, and Pooh can have deceptively long waits, especially mid-day. If you’re traveling with younger kids, these might be worth securing ahead of time.
  • Think about location. With Buzz closed, there’s a gap in Tomorrowland Lightning Lane options. If you were planning a morning in Tomorrowland, expect to use standby for Space Mountain unless it’s your Tier 1 pick.

What’s Coming to Buzz When It Reopens

The closure isn’t just for a quick touch-up — this is a full refresh. When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopens in 2026, you can expect:

  • A brand-new character, “Buddy,” to prep you for your mission.
  • Updated interactive targets for more dynamic gameplay.
  • Completely redesigned ride vehicles with colors inspired by Buzz and Star Command.
  • Onboard video monitors to track your real-time score and give extra game features.
  • Handheld blasters instead of fixed ones, making it easier to aim. The blasters will have an always-on laser and come in two colors so you can see exactly who’s hitting what.

That’s a lot of upgrades, so while the wait feels long now, it should definitely be worth it for Space Ranger fans.

The Bigger Picture

Magic Kingdom is in a season of big changes, with multiple headliner attractions down for extended periods. While some of these updates will bring exciting new experiences, the immediate effect is a tighter Multi Pass lineup and more competition for the best spots.

If you’re heading to the park before 2026, you’ll want to:

  • Get familiar with the current attraction lists.
  • Be ready to adjust your touring plan based on what’s closed.
  • Make your Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections as soon as your booking window opens.
