Why Disney Adults Are Suddenly Booking a Lightning Lane for Walk-On Rides
Lightning Lane rules have changed so much in the past few months, but we keep up with all the changes so you’re prepared for your upcoming trips!
When Lightning Lane Multi Pass officially replaced Genie+, one of the things many people were excited about is that you can select three attractions up to three days in advance of your trip (or seven days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel). This is a great way to ensure you’ll get to skip the line at some of your favorite attractions, however, there’s something you might see Disney experts doing that has you scratching your head. We’re here to tell you it’s actually the BEST thing you can do for your park day!
When you book your Lightning Lanes in advance, you may be tempted to book the three rides you’re expecting to fill up the fastest. For example, in Magic Kingdom this could be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan’s Flight. While this is a great strategy, you should only use TWO of your Lightning Lanes to book those attractions.
The other one? Find an attraction that’s usually a walk-on, we mean something like Mad Tea Party or Magic Carpets of Aladdin (again, if you’re in Magic Kingdom), and book it as early as possible for your third Lightning Lane. Why? Well because the moment you step into the park, you’ll run to that attraction to use it, and then you’ve got your third one open to begin booking another!
This is especially important because for more popular attractions, their Lightning Lanes are often gone by around 11 AM, especially if it’s a busier time in the parks like spring break. This way, you know you’ve got two of your key attractions booked, you can use your third one almost immediately, and either book a decent time for one of the other popular attractions, or continue to knock out smaller attractions and totally bypass their low waits.
Waiting 15 minutes for Under the Sea or The Barnstormer may not seem like a lot of time, and it’s not in the grand scheme of things, but saving 15 minutes on four different attractions by using a Lightning Lane means you’ve saved about an HOUR of waiting! This is especially important if you know you will be waiting in some longer lines later in the day. If you can save time earlier and NOT wait in lines, waiting in longer ones will feel more doable and less miserable if you don’t feel like you’ve been waiting in lines all day.
Choosing how to go about your Disney World day is entirely up to you and your group. Some will find that using Lightning Lane significantly improves their day if waiting in line is a struggle for them, while others who don’t mind it may find buying Lightning Lane to be a waste of money. Whatever you decide, we’re always here to help you plan the best vacation, so stay tuned to DFB!
