CONFIRMED: The Locker Rule You Need To Know About at Epic Universe
Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, is almost open!
While the park does not officially open until May 22nd, 2025, park previews are currently underway for Team Members and their guests, and we were able to get a sneak peek! Before actually getting to experience the park for ourselves, we speculated that certain attractions would require a locker system to keep your belongings in while you ride. Well, we finally know how this system will work, and spoiler alert: it is different than the lockers we are normally used to at the other two Universal parks.
While we were able to experience Epic Universe as part of a preview, photos and videos are still not allowed in the park. That being said, we will get to experience Epic Universe again before it opens and will be able to take photos and videos then, so make sure you stay tuned for that!
There is so much to see and do in Epic Universe that on our first visit, we did not get to do it all, but that is okay; it just gives us another reason to come back again and again! This new theme park is home to five immersive themed lands, including Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe.
We only experienced the locker rule in Celestial Park when we went to ride Stardust Racers, a dueling coaster reminiscent of Dueling Dragons. This coaster offers a smooth, thrilling ride with peaks, valleys, and celestial rolls.
Before boarding, we had to go to the locker area, which uses facial recognition rather than just scanning your park ticket (although the option to scan your park ticket is available). To get your locker, you will press a button, and then it will scan your face and take a picture of you. If you like the picture, you can submit it, but you also have the option to retake it or even cancel it.

Then, in order to board the attraction, you will go through a metal detector to ensure all your belongings are stored safely in the locker area. Once you get off the ride, you will come back to the same locker station, tap the same button, and it will take another picture of you. Once it confirms your face, it will reopen your locker.
It indeed was a seamless experience, and we could not believe how easy and straightforward it was. This is not the only area of the park that utilizes this newer technology, as when we entered the park, we did not have to scan our ticket; instead, facial recognition was used.
We can’t wait to go back and explore Epic Universe again, so make sure to stay tuned with us here at the Disney Food Blog!
