4 Cringey Things That Make Me Rethink Walking into Magic Kingdom Restaurants Ever Again

Magic Kingdom is known for many things — a magical atmosphere, the iconic Cinderella Castle, nostalgic attractions, and so much more.

However, it’s also unfortunately known for being the weakest park when it comes to dining options around the resort. You’ll find decent food here, but nothing that will really blow your socks off (with the exception of Skipper Canteen, we love you Skipper Canteen!), and you often may find yourself underwhelmed with the different restaurants. We’ve gotta be honest though, there are a few things that make us cringe so bad we seriously think about turning around and choosing to eat at a different park entirely.

This Restaurant Has NO Bathroom

We’re not kidding — it’s true. Over at The Plaza Restaurant on Main Street, U.S.A., you won’t find a public bathroom in this small table service restaurant. So what does that mean? Well, you’ll have to completely go outside if you’re in need of one.

Thankfully, there’s one not far away right near Tomorrowland Terrace (a restaurant that currently sits empty, except for when its used for Fireworks Dessert Parties), but this is totally a downside for anyone. However, it’s especially an issue if you, or someone in your party, has bathroom emergencies, or you’ve got little ones. Not to mention if you want to be sure you wash your hands before you eat, it’ll be a longer trip than usual, and it always makes us second guess dining here.

Eating at The Worst…On Purpose

It’s widely argued that one of the worst quick-service spots in the park is Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, though it’s also the most popular. This is because it has a very simple menu that’s full of classic theme park eats, has tons of indoor seating that are great for hot days, and it’s nostalgic for many people.

That also means that anytime we step in here to eat on purpose, we feel ashamed, like we’re cheating on so many of the better options around the park. But hey, sometimes that Cosmic Ray’s burger is all you want, and you won’t accept anything different! We see you and we don’t judge, but we know what it feels like to be glancing around and hoping no one who knows you sees you go in.

These Two Restaurants Are EXACTLY The Same

It’s not uncommon for Disney World restaurants to share a kitchen, especially in smaller spaces. However, what’s more unusual is for two table service restaurants to have nearly IDENTICAL menus, share a kitchen…and their only difference is their theming and names.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Liberty Tree Tavern and The Diamond Horseshoe are essentially the exact same restaurant, but out of the two of them, Liberty Tree Tavern is often the busier and more popular of the two. This is because the theming of this restaurant very much fits in with the historical feel of Liberty Square (and matches in name as well), whereas The Diamond Horseshoe is…kinda just there. In fact, most people forget about it entirely, and we don’t blame them for that, because we do the same thing.

Could we get a little more of a difference between the two, Disney? We feel like The Diamond Horseshoe has so much potential if it wasn’t subjected to being the unfortunately forgotten twin. The food (which is exactly the same as Liberty Tree Tavern) is good, though!

We’ve Had Emotional Breakdowns There

We go to Disney World EVERY day, and even though you’re in Disney World, life doesn’t just stop. Not to mention that Disney World vacations are HARD on your mind, body, and sometimes spirit, so we’re not ashamed to say that we’ve had our fair share of breakdowns in a few Magic Kingdom restaurants.

However, that does mean when we walk by them again, we’re brought back to the memory of said emotional breakdown. Sometimes it’s a little embarrassing and keeps us from dining there during that time, or we don’t want to be reminded of the negative event that led to that breakdown. Other times though, if it’s been long enough, we laugh as we walk past when we’re reminded of the past.
