OK This Looks SUPER SCARY…But We Might Do It Anyway! Would YOU?!

We go to Disney World every day, and yeah, we ride some pretty thrilling rides.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

NOOOOO…we’re not talking about “it’s a small world,” although some of y’all might call it a scary ride. But we’ve taken multiple rides on Tower of Terror, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

But, there’s an experience going on in New York City right now that we might just say “no,” to.

Then again, it does kinda’ look like fun. And HISTORICAL. First, though, we have to give you a little background. Way back in 1932, The New York Herald-Tribune published a photo of 11 ironworkers sitting on a steel beam 850 feet above the ground on top of what is now 30 Rockefeller Plaza. They were just sitting there enjoying lunch. Here’s the photo. You’ve totally seen it before, right?

Well, there’s a new attraction in New York City, The Beam, that allows people to recreate that experience. It puts them on a beam that is slowly raised.

Once the beam raises to its full height, which is the same as it was in that old photo (again, 850 feet above the ground!!!), it rotates so the photo is recreated. Oddly enough, we don’t see anyone bringing their lunch along for the ride like in the original photo, though.

Ultimately, they’re in the exact spot that the original beam was in. Although this is potentially TOO thrilling, you can’t deny that view! (Plus, there is a platform down there, at least.)

Then the beam rotates again and they pose for a photo to mark their death-defying stunt. You can watch the full video below (note: if you’re afraid of heights, you might want to skip watching this).

A new attraction at Rockefeller Center’s Top of the Rock observation deck lets visitors sit atop a beam and recreate the famous 1932 photograph “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper.” The iconic photo was taken as a publicity shot during construction of Rockefeller Center’s RCA Building, now known as 30 Rock. #nyc #newyorkcity

If you happen to find yourself in New York and want to try it for yourself, you’ll need to get a ticket to go to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at 30 Rockefeller Center. Tickets are $40 per person and are available in person and online.
