What CHANGED at The Haunted Mansion After Its Closure in Magic Kingdom
The Haunted Mansion struggled a bit to reopen after a temporary refurbishment closure, but now the fan-favorite attraction is back and looks…DIFFERENT!

We’re still awaiting the arrival of the Hatbox Ghost (he isn’t there yet!) but it looks like Disney did take the time to spruce certain things up a bit in this attraction. So just what has changed? Let’s take a look!
When we spoke to a Cast Member at the Haunted Mansion after its reopening (following a short temporary closure) they indicated that the main change that has been made is an improvement in the lighting of certain portions of the ride — and you can really tell the difference!
For example, the lighting in the Stretching Room has been updated and things are looking really great in here now!

No Hatbox Ghost Yet!
In Madame Leota’s Seance Room, some of the lighting has been updated as well. We felt like the audio sounded great on the ride as well.

Various other parts of the ride also got some lighting updates, giving things a better feel.
Over in the graveyard scene, there’s also a special update — the mummy ghost is BACK and looking better than ever.

Just note that the ride can still experience problems, despite having gone down for a bit of refurbishment in recent days. A little later in the morning on August 11th, we noticed that the Haunted Mansion was temporarily closed due to technical issues. It reopened not long after, though. Still, you’ll want to be on the lookout for any temporary closures during your trip.
