REVIEW: Theres a Reason Why This Disney World Restaurant is Always Packed

Toy Story Land may have gotten a new restaurant this year, but that doesn’t mean you should skip over the classics!

Roundup Rodeo Barbecue is the new family-style table service meal that has larger-than-life theming and serves up barbecue staples. But what if you are looking for something a little more convenient with (almost) as much charm? Woody’s Lunch Box is a quick-service dining location that paved the way for heavily themed restaurants in Toy Story Land. This week, I stopped by for lunch — come see how it went!

Atmosphere

If you’re walking around Andy’s backyard, you probably won’t miss this whimsical spot near Alien’s Swirling Saucers. Just like everything else in Toy Story Land, it is full of huge, colorful details that make you feel toy-sized.

When you walk up to the restaurant, you’ll notice that it looks like you’re walking right into Andy’s lunch box — propped up with Woody’s Roundup thermos on the side!

You can either place your order at Lotso’s Bear-y Bites or Trizie’s Treats...

Order

…or place a mobile order, which you will pick up at the window when you’re notified that it’s ready. Notice how the window is surrounded by carrots and celery?

On a closer look, you’ll see even more fun details, like these animal crackers around the windows.

The dining area is all outside, and it can get a bit chaotic here looking for a table during busy hours.

But, it’s full of personality. Some tables have chairs made to look like Babybel cheese…

While it can get very hot here for much of the year, most of the tables do have umbrellas…

…some of them are even themed!

Once you place your order, you can grab a spot to sit. Condiments and utensils are self-serve.

Let’s take a look at the menu!

The menu here is pretty simple, but there are some good options.

They offer a mix of Souvenir Specialties — like the Alien Sipper, Limited-timed Offerings — like the 4th of July Lunch Box Tart, and Daily Lunch Box Tarts.

For Entrees, you’ll find options like the BBQ Brisket Melt, Smoked Turkey Sandwich, Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich, and “Totchos.” There are also a few Plant-based options on the list.

The sides menu includes items like Tomato-Basil Soup, Potato Barrels, and Mini Babybel Snack Cheese.

Kids can choose between the Turkey Sandwich or the Grilled Cheese.

Lastly, there are quite a few beverages to choose from. Frozen Mystic Portal Punch and the Ice Cream Float with Barq’s Root Beer are specialty beverage options. There’s a long list of soft beverages, teas, juices, hot cocoa, and other drinks to choose from. If you’re looking for something with some alcohol, you can try the Grown-Up’s Lemonade or one of their beer options.

Let’s dig in, shall we?

Eats

For my late lunch, I ordered the BBQ Brisket Melt, “Totchos,” Raspberry Lunch Box Tart, and the Fourth of July Lunch Box Tart.

First, I tried the BBQ Brisket Melt for $13.29. This was Shredded Smoked Brisket, Pickles, and Tangy Barbecue Sauce between Melted Cheddar and Monterey Jack on Grilled Sourdough Bread.

I loved this! The brisket was soft and tender, and the barbecue sauce had a ton of flavor. It was sweet and tangy and complimented the sandwich well. The sourdough bread was toasted perfectly, with a nice, buttery flavor where it was grilled. There was a nice mix of cheeses, as well, but I would have preferred a little more.

On the side, I got Tomato-basil Soup. This was nice and creamy with a bright tang from the ripe tomatoes. It was seasoned well, with a good amount of salt and freshness from the basil.

Next up, I had the famous “Totchos” for $9.99. This is Potato Barrels coated with Beef and Bean Chili, Shredded Cheese, and signature Queso with Tomatoes and Corn Chips, finished with Sour Cream and a sprinkle of Green Onions.

This is a super-flavorful, filling meal under $10! In my opinion, all of the flavors in this went well together. The corn chips added a nice crunchy texture, and the cheese and sour cream made it all melty, creamy, and delicious.

The Beef and Bean Chili had a lot of flavor as well, and I would get this altered version of nachos again. My only complaint was that some of the potato barrels were a little dry. That cheese on top was great, but if you don’t eat it while it’s all hot, it doesn’t make its way down to the tots well and then they seem plain.

Next up, I had the Raspberry Lunch Box Tart for $4.49. This was a Raspberry Marmalade-stuffed Pastry coated in a Strawberry Fondant and Crispy Pearls.

This was a pretty good treat — it tastes a lot like a sugar cookie stuffed with raspberry jam. So, if you like sugar cookies, you’ll probably like this. The raspberry jam was sweet and tart. I also loved the way the crispy pearls and raspberry candy added a nice crunch to the treat.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the Strawberry Fondant. It’s just too sweet and has a weird texture in my opinion. But, if you like fondant this might be a great option for you! Overall, this is a sweet, glorified sugar cookie — but that doesn’t mean it isn’t tasty!

Lastly, I had the Fourth of July Lunch Box Tart for $4.49. This version of the Lunch Box Tart is here just in time for the holiday. It’s a similar concept but has Cherry Pie Filling, Blue Vanilla Fondant, and is topped with Star Sprinkles.

You’ll typically be able to find seasonal versions of the Lunch Box tart at different times of the year, and in my experience, they are usually softer and don’t hold together as well. That can be a good thing if you like a softer cookie! But this patriotic lunch box tart did fall apart a bit easier.

Aside from the texture difference, I really loved the cherry filling. It tasted very appropriate for the holiday and I’d probably get it again. It was also very cute! But again, the fondant was not my favorite.

But, if you’re looking for a cute treat to celebrate the holiday and are a fan of cherries — this might be worth a try!

Nosh or Not

Jump into Woody’s Lunch Box for lunch or dinner if…

  • You want to enjoy a fun, Pixar-themed meal. The theming here is adorable! There are details everywhere and you really will feel immersed in the land.
  • You have picky eaters. The food here is not anything crazy — unless you think swapping tortilla chips for potato barrels is bizarre. For the most part, the food is simple enough to please a variety of tastes.
  • You are in a hurry. This place gets busy, so you’ll have to plan ahead and mobile order if you’re hoping for a quick meal. But, if you do, this is a great option for a fast stop for food.

Keep strolling down Toy Story Land if…

  • You want a more relaxed experience. As mentioned, this spot is all outdoors — so it can get HOT. Also, it can be a challenge to find a table when it’s busy.
  • You want a table-service meal. Roundup Rodeo BBBQ is full of just a fun theming but is a little bit nicer of an experience. You get a server and the food is all-you-care-to-enjoy.
  • You don’t want such an immersive experience. If you’re hoping mealtime can be a little bit of a break from all of the Disney theming and crowds, this is not the spot for you.

Overall

Overall, the food at Woody’s Lunch Box is pretty simple, but it is satisfying for the most part. While you won’t find anything super unique here, the food is rather tasty, and you can find some fun seasonal treats for special occasions as well.

As for the experience, it can be a bit hectic. This spot is popular, and it can be a challenge to find a seat. Also, it’s all outdoors, so you won’t find any air conditioning at the location. If you’re just stopping for a quick meal and don’t mind the heat, however, the food and theming are worth the stop.
