NEWS: 18 Disney World Rides Are Temporarily CLOSED

When you’re going to Disney World, it’s important to expect the unexpected. Plans can change last minute, so we like to always have a Plan B, Plan C, and maybe even Plans D, E, and F.

Dark Clouds over Disney World

Today, bad weather in Orlando meant that a LOT of rides were temporarily closed throughout the four Disney World theme parks. However, the unusual thing is that a few indoor rides shut down temporarily as well! Let’s take a look.

While we were in Magic Kingdom this morning, a storm popped up (including lightning), which means that lots of outdoor rides have to shut down until the bad weather passes.

Rain

The Festival of Fantasy parade had to be canceled as well due to safety concerns in the storm.

Around 12PM EST, the following rides in Magic Kingdom were CLOSED:

  • Astro Orbiter
  • The Barnstormer
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Dumbo
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Liberty Square Riverboat
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Walt Disney World Railroad

Note that most of those are outdoor rides, but The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is indoors, so we’re not sure why that’s closed as well.

Winnie the Pooh

Due to the many closures in this park, some of the indoor rides that WEREN’T closed had higher-than-normal wait times. Pirates of the Caribbean was especially busy!

Super busy!

Over at Jungle Cruise, Cast Members were explaining that the ride was not open at the moment due to the storms.

The bad weather affected other Disney World parks as well. Take a look:

EPCOT —

  • Test Track
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends

Test Track

Disney’s Animal Kingdom —

  • Triceratop Spin
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest

Disney’s Hollywood Studios —

  • Slinky Dog Dash

If this happens to you on your trip, the only thing to do is wait it out. The rides will reopen as soon as the weather passes.

Storm

Remember that the rides will only close if there’s lightning in the area. If it’s just raining, you can put on a rain poncho and keep going about your day like normal! In fact, the rain might scare away some other guests, so it’s possible you’ll get on the popular rides with a lower-than-normal wait time.

Tower of Terror

Don’t forget to bring rain gear to Disney World every day during the summer. Storms can pop up without notice, and you don’t want to be caught unprepared!
