MAJOR Change Announced for the Train in Magic Kingdom

The Walt Disney World Railroad is FINALLY reopening in Magic Kingdom! The iconic train will reopen this holiday season (with a specific date yet to be announced), and it’ll feature some major changes when it returns.

Disney announced that “Cast Members and Imagineers are celebrating a moment of nostalgia at Magic Kingdom Park this week as we prepare to welcome guests aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad once again for the holiday season.” The Walt Disney World Railroad is an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom. It loops around the park with stops at 3 train stations.

The Train!

Disney said that the train now has a “completely refreshed track” as well as “another new surprise for fans.” While the train was closed (for a few years), Disney made some updates to the track and engines. They said that the “100-year-old vintage steam trains” will now feature “an all-new voice to bring guests into the beloved stories they encounter as they travel from one magical land to the next.”

The narration that you’ll now hear on the Walt Disney World Railroad attraction is going to be brand new. There will be “exciting new sounds and voices,” according to Disney Imagineers. “A new conductor has assumed the role, carrying on the long tradition of warm welcomes and amusing anecdotes while adding fresh commentary and story to the journey.”

The new conductor is “someone who grew up on Main Street, U.S.A., dreaming of the day they’d be on the railroad,” who has “now achieved that dream, and they know everyone and everything at Magic Kingdom…an unofficial mayor of sorts.” Disney shared that this conductor “is humble, genial, and knowledgeable, and he’s eager to help passengers of these iconic steam trains get to their destinations around the park he loves so dearly.”

At Fantasyland Station, too!

The conductor will point out attractions and sights in Magic Kingdom during the ride. And there may be a few characters that guests encounter along the way. Disney hasn’t shared an exact reopening date, but the Railroad will start running again sometime “this holiday season.” We can’t wait to ride the train once again!
