Review! We’re Trying Three Instagrammable Cake Bars in Disney Springs
Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC is located in Disney Springs and bakes fresh treats with vegan and gluten-free ingredients.
We heard earlier that the bakery was mixing up a new Sugar Rush Cake Bar this month. We thought this would be a great opportunity to see what’s fresh and do a taste test of ALL THREE of the available cake bars right now! Let’s do a quick review of the Sugar Rush, Milk and Cookies, and Brownie Cake Bar.
First off, we want to note that non-vegans and gluten eaters will most likely enjoy a lot of what the bakery has to offer. While the cake bars were vegan and allergy-friendly, we (as meat and gluten eaters) didn’t feel like there was anything missing.
The bakery does a great job of incorporating the tastes and textures we’re accustomed to. We suggest you give the treats a try even if you’re not vegan! Ok, enough disclaimers. It’s cake time!
Sugar Rush
The Sugar Rush Cake Bar was simply referred to as “Vanilla Rainbow” at the bakery. The cake is vanilla, topped with vanilla rainbow icing, and a sugar cookie. It’s basically sugar on sugar on sugar!
We could really taste the vanilla in the cake and the frosting. It wasn’t overly sweet, which was a little surprising given the amount of sugar. The sugar cookie was our favorite part. It was crisp and the sugar crystals tasted great. Also, the candy pearls added a nice crunch to the treat!
Word of warning: The frosting is fairly thin so it melted like crazy in the hot sun. We were absolutely covered in frosting by the end of our treat fest. Get in those Instagram pictures before your cake looks like a pile of goo!
Milk and Cookies
The Milk and Cookies Cake Bar has a white cake base, topped with vanilla frosting, chocolate icing, and a sugar cookie coated in chocolate cookie crumbs.
It tasted fairly similar to the Sugar Rush bar, only with less vanilla. We didn’t really get the taste of “milk and cookies” in this cake. The cookie on top was a little chewy and not quite as crispy as the Sugar Crush cookie too. We would have liked more cookie inside the bar.
Don’t get us wrong, we really liked it! It tasted like a good piece of cake with frosting. That said, when compared to the other two cake bars, it didn’t stand out as much.
Brownie Cake Bar
The Brownie Cake Bar was our favorite cake bar of the day! Granted, we’re big chocolate fans, so that’s not too surprising. The dessert is made with a chocolate brownie cake base, topped with chocolate frosting, icing, and strawberries.
The cake’s texture was exactly as advertised. It was a nice mix of fudgy brownie and moist cake. The chocolate really came through in the frosting and wasn’t overly rich. What really topped it all off was the fresh strawberries. The tangy fruit balanced out the chocolate nicely. A big win for us!
All these cakes are HEFTY, by the way. The slices are really big and dense. One cake bar is $8 and can easily be shared with two people. Consider dropping by Erin McKenna’s next time you’re at Disney Springs! Oh, and did we mention they have a Donut Happy Hour? That’s right. Between 11AM – 3PM, guests can buy one donut, get one 50% off! Is there anything sweeter than that?
