The NBA was one of the major leaders when it came to the return of sports in the US. Now, after a successful season restart, some teams have expressed an interest in boycotting the rest of the season in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin. As of this morning, three games have been postponed and the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers have cast votes in favor of boycotting the remainder of the season.

The discussions of a boycott first began when the Milwaukee Bucks staged a walk-out of Game 5 against the Orlando Magic yesterday. Afterward, the Bucks made a statement that their protest was in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake and several other teams opted not to play as well — the Rockets, the Thunder, the Lakers, and the Trail Blazers.

Last night, an impromptu meeting was held in a Disney World ballroom to discuss plans for the league following the boycott and postponement of several games. During the meeting, the Lakers and the Clippers voted to boycott the remainder of the season with Lebron James calling for owners to be more involved and take action.

As of this morning, several reporters have acknowledged the uncertainty of the situation, noting that there will be an emergency meeting of the Board of Governors at 11AM ET to discuss the situation. Per bubble reporter Jeff Goodman, one player noted, “It doesn’t look good right now, but we’re all hoping that everyone will sleep on it and maybe we can figure it out tomorrow because most of us still want to find a way to play.”

The players aren’t the only ones protesting either. According to reporter Marc J. Spears, the NBA referees are walking together at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort as a form of peaceful protest. the NBA Coaches Association has also supported the decisions and emotions of the players.
