News: Disneyland Officials Issue Statement on the Removal of a Splash Mountain Song from the Resort’s Background Music
Earlier this year, it was announced that Splash Mountain in both Disney World and Disneyland would be re-themed to a Princess and the Frog attraction.
Since that announcement, we’ve seen Splash Mountain merchandise flying off the shelves in Disney World (although some was recently restocked). Now, it seems some references to Splash Mountain have disappeared over at Disneyland.
One of our favorite things to do is to listen to the background music played in Disneyland and Disney World. Recently, the background music loop that is played in Downtown Disney and the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park was changed!
According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland removed the song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” from the music loop. As reported by The OCR, Disneyland officials noted that the song’s removal from the background music “is part of a continuous process to deliver an environment that features stories that are relevant and inclusive.”
The OCR also noted that references to Song of the South have been stripped from Disneyland’s Splash Mountain website. It appears the website used to note that the ride was a “delightful log flume ride featuring characters and songs from the classic Disney film ‘Song of the South’.” In fact, the description of the website on Google still appears to include this.
But, if you visit the website itself, references to Song of the South do not appear. Instead, part of the website reads “Drop into a whimsical world filled with classic characters and songs on this thrilling log-flume adventure.”
It appears a similar change was made to the Disney World website for this attraction as well. While the Google search still displays the reference to Song of the South…
…the website itself does not reference the movie. Both websites do, however, note that you can sing along to songs like “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” while enjoying this attraction.
We’ll keep an eye out for any more changes around the parks or online relating to Splash Mountain, and let you know what we find!
