Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort Set To Close Temporarily During Coronavirus Outbreak

Tonight we had to say “see ya real soon” to the Magic Kingdom and other Disney World Parks as they prepare to close due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Disney World-run Resort Hotels and Disney Springs have planned to remain open during the park closures, but we have started to see certain stores deciding to close anyway. And now we have news that a resort hotel in Disney World is also closing.

Tonight we spoke with a Cast Member who stated that the Walt Disney Dolphin Resort is planning to close its doors starting Tuesday, March 17th.

The Cast Member said all guests who are already checked into the Dolphin on Tuesday will be transferred over to the Swan to continue their stay.

Since the Swan and Dolphin are sister resorts, and many Disney World resorts are running at low capacity right now, this makes sense. It saves on costs of running two hotels that are only partially full, and gives Dolphin guests the opportunity to stay in the upgraded Swan instead.

Now, it’s very important to note that the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts are NOT OWNED OR RUN BY DISNEY. These hotels are run by Marriott Bonvoy, so the directive to close the Dolphin and move guests over to the Swan was not made by Walt Disney Company executives. As of right now, all Walt Disney World-owned and -run hotels are still open and operating.

This is the most up to date information we have so far, but it is subject to change depending on developments. If you have questions about your Disney Resort stay, please call Disney World at (407) 939-3476. We will continue to keep you updated as we hear more information!
