Review and Pics: Surfs Up to the PCH Grill Character Buffet at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel!
Surf’s up at Disney’s PCH Grill, where we recently enjoyed Donald Duck’s Seaside Breakfast! This character meal is at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel and offers the chance to fill up on breakfast eats and character interactions.
As you might’ve guessed, Donald Duck’s Seaside Breakfast features characters in their beach finest (you’ll see them in a bit!). We received this fun button when we checked in, which gives you a little sneak peek at how Donald hangs ten!
After you check in, there’s a little photo op area themed as the PCH Surf Shack!
Check out the water conditions, and hang up our snorkel gear before you find your table.
The dining room is colorful, with oblong, surfboard-shaped designs here and there. Seating is at tables with comfy padded chairs.
If you prefer a slightly quieter meal, you can request to be seated in this room that’s slightly apart from the main space with the buffet. There aren’t any guarantees you will be seated in there, and it’s not SUPER quiet, but it’s got a somewhat calmer vibe.
Table settings are simple and have condiments and a sweet flower.
We loved the presentation of the forks. Also, can we get one of these Mickey-shaped table organizer to go, please?
The buffet itself is also colorful and is stocked with lots of breakfast staples — and a couple brunch-y items, too.
There’s also an ice cream machine so you can end on a sweet note (Nothing wrong with ice cream for breakfast. Nothing!).
The Omelet Station has lots of options. As we were dining first thing in the morning (we arrived before the doors of the restaurant were even open…), lines were minimal at the buffet.
Plus, just check out how cool the actual buffet looks! It’s radically awesome and colorful!
There’s a station for lox, capers, onions, and other related accompaniments.
Fresh fruit included cantaloupe, pineapple, and watermelon.
Donuts were fresh and tasty, with several options.
Likewise there were four types of Danishes: cherry, cheese, apple, and peach. Cinnamon rolls are available, too.
For warm breakfast staples, breakfast potatoes are served with onions and peppers. Scrambled eggs are simple and plain.
Eggs Benedict were in various stages of disarray, but the color of the hollandaise was vibrant, and the eggs were still runny (those that hadn’t been busted in the warmer).
Meats included breakfast sausage, mini chorizo, and bacon (not pictured).
Chicken Nuggets are available. And before you say these aren’t a breakfast food: Disney chicken nuggs are all day food. No question.
There was also sausage gravy and biscuits.
For some regional fare, the buffet offered chilaquiles. These are basically tortilla chips cooked with salsa and eggs!
Of course, it’s not a Disney buffet without Mickey Waffles!
The online menu calls these Minnie Pancakes. We can definitely make out some ears but no bows.
Peanut Butter and Banana Chocolate-Stuffed French Toast is an inventive (and indulgent!) buffet offering!
In addition to all of these, the buffet also has a parfait bar and breakfast flatbreads. Bread for toasting was available, too!
We tried several buffet items, including a cherry danish, lots of Mickey Waffles, and a ham and cheese omelet.
The chilaquiles were a nice divergence from the otherwise fairly traditional breakfast buffet, and the fresh fruit was a welcome addition, too.
But with whom will you share your filling buffet breakfast? Well, first is Donald in a straw hat and unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt.
Daisy keeps it fresh in a yellow bow and pink and yellow dress.
Minnie posed in her signature polka dots and a visor.
And Stitch was a bundle of aloha energy, as one would expect!
Overall, we had a great time at PCH Grill’s breakfast buffet. We especially enjoyed the early-morning interactions with characters which weren’t at all rushed due to the restaurant not being full. When we compare this character buffet to Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, PCH Grill offers a smaller buffet but better character interactions (at least in our experience). But can you really go wrong when you start your day with Disney characters? We think not!
