Photo Tour! Disney Skyliner Progress (Some Walls Are DOWN!) at Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts!

As Walt Disney World prepares to begin a new chapter in mass transportation with the advent of its Skyliner gondola system, Skyliner stations are starting to emerge from behind construction walls. Today we’re bringing you a look at Hourglass Lake station at Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts!

Construction fencing around the Station’s restrooms has come down, revealing details about the new addition. The design is simple, featuring bright yellow posts and a blue awning.

The awning is reminiscent of a page turning in a sketchbook (or maybe that’s just our imaginations playing with the Art of Animation theme!). In any case, we think it’s cute!

Construction cones continue to block entry to the restrooms, and “Not in Service” signs are taped up beside each door. There are two entrances for restrooms, each with a unisex bathroom sign. This seems to indicate that these are single-occupant toilets, not multi-stall arrangements. We’ll have to wait to confirm this when the restrooms open.

A custodial closet is also built into the structure as well as two water fountains. (No bottle fillers here, unfortunately!)

Looking back toward Art of Animation Resort from Generation Gap Bridge (and the Skyliner Station), this is the view.

The Skyliner station itself is still a work in progress, and some construction walls are still up.

The Station features the same yellow and blue color scheme as the restrooms as well as an even larger ‘page’ awning.

On our visit this morning, a crew of construction workers was suited up to keep making headway on the Station.

We spied two gondolas in station, including a Mrs. Potts and Chip cabin! (Just a sec — adding this to our bucket list…)

This angle on the Station from the Art of Animation side gives us some perspective on the height of those towers and just how far you’ll be sailing over Hourglass Lake!

Over on the Pop Century side, it’s more of the same. The Station stands at the ready.

We’ll keep watch as construction wraps up on the Skyliner stations throughout Walt Disney World Resort and testing continues on the lines. We still don’t have an official start date for the new transportation system, but Disney expected cast members to begin rides as soon as August. And that means they’ll be plenty to see in coming weeks — and we’ll keep our eyes on the skies for ya!
