“WHY IS MY MOUTH NUMB?!” What You Need to Know About Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Aaaaand WE’RE BACK at Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Earlier this week we took a tour of the local watering hole of Black Spire Outpost (and you can see it all here).
But today? It’s ALL. ABOUT. THE SIPS! Because we’re stepping back inside Oga’s Cantina…
… to check out THE DRINKS on the menu and share them with you!! So, grab a seat (umm, if you can find one, that is — this place fills up fast)!
And take in a tune or two from DJ R-3X! HIT IT, Rex!
And let’s check out what the Bartenders of Batuu are serving up from here…
… at THE CANTINA!!
A Few Fun Facts About Oga’s Cantina…
Oga Garra is basically the “mob boss” as the citizens of Batuu will tell you. She’s very influential, and while you won’t see her in the cantina, you might hear her inside and outside. Cast members behind the bar are able to press buttons to lower the music and play Oga’s voice. And while you’re waiting to get inside (lines have been at least an hour or two each day since Galaxy’s Edge has been open), you may hear Oga speaking from a high-up window.
The creatures who contribute to your drinks are housed right at the bar. The Worrt produces eggs for your Jabba Juice (you can see the eggs in the bottom of the container here); the slug is used for your Dagobah Slug Slinger; and the cast member tried to get me to believe there were Banthas on the roof for the Blue Bantha Milk drink…but I didn’t believe him.
The Cantina is powered by Hyperdrive (of course), and from time to time that hyperdrive tends to overload. You’ll know it’s happening when the lights start to flicker and DJ Rex powers down!
When an overload occurs, Cantina cast members have to “fix” it by slamming it with a few hammers…and there’s often audience participation required. Eventually the hyperdrive wakes up again…and so does DJ Rex!
Drinks and Eats
Oga’s Cantina makes history in more than one way. First… HELLOOO!! It’s the CANTINA! But also, this watering hole is the first location to serve alcohol to guests in Disneyland park (while creative mocktails abound, too) outside of Club 33 and 21 Royal.
But these aren’t just any drinks. You’ll find concoctions made with ingredients sourced from all over the galaxy, with different options available depending on whether you hit up the Cantina first thing in the morning or later in the day or night.
Some things to note: all drinks are pre-made and served on tap, with an emphasis on sweet and sugary drinks (if you’re looking for something a little heavier hitting, it will be hard to find). There are no liquor bottles anywhere, so it’s not a full bar and you must order from the menu.
And none of the drinks we received are served with straws, just as an FYI. (But we did see paper straws on the bar, so you can request them if needed.)
They are, however, served atop some RAD COASTERS, custom made for the Cantina!
That said, the drinks are very colorful and provide a treat for the eyes as they’re created to look cool when the light from the bar shines up through them. On our third visit to the Cantina, we made a friend who happened to have Pantone color cards in her purse, so we decided to show you a fun spectrum!
In short: they’re fun! Let’s dive in…
Breakfast and Morning Specialties
On most mornings, Oga’s Cantina will open with the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. And unique beverages — both alcoholic and non-alcoholic — will be available from the day’s beginning.
Morning beverages WITH alcohol include the Spiran Caf ($16.00) featuring Peru Alto Mayo Organic Joffrey’s Coffee®, orange marmalade, Gosling’s 151 Rum, vanilla whipped cream, and citrus zest.
And the Bloody Rancor ($17.00) is made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, and spicy Bloody Mary mix… all finished off with a sweet meringue Rancor bone!
Morning drinks WITHOUT alcohol have a headliner with the Blue Bantha ($13.00): it’s a cold glass of Blue Milk with a Bantha-inspired vanilla-butter sugar cookie topper.
The Blue Bantha is not to be confused with the Blue Milk at the Milk Stand which is a frozen beverage while Oga’s Blue Bantha is not. The drinks do have a similar mild tropical berry flavor, through. And don’t worry — Blue Bantha is available all day, so you or your little Padawan won’t miss it no matter when you visit.
The cookie is intriguing — it’s definitely a butter cookie on the bottom, but the middle layer is a coconutty, caramel-y mix that reminded me of a Girl Scout Samoa cookie! Up top is a meringue circle.
Additional morning drinks include Black Spire Brew (a cold brew with honey, falernum, passion fruit, and citrus, $7.00).
Moogan Tea (with chocolate milk, vanilla, and cinnamon, $7.00) and Tarine Tea (with peach, huckleberry, and mint, $6.50) are also available in the AM.
Note that you can also get a regular coffee, latte, espresso, cappuccino, orange juice, or apple juice… but don’t do that. Just don’t. You’re in a galaxy far, far away for cryin’ out loud!
A couple of Breakfast Bites are also available with the Mustafarian Lava Roll and Rising Moons Overnight Oats. The Mustafarian lava roll is served warm here at the Cantina, and is basically a cinnamon roll topped with oreo cookie crumbs and “lava” icing.
The overnight oats are a nice, sweet, hearty option that will stick with you for a while. You’ll also find both of these at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo for breakfast, and the overnight oats are also at Ronto Roasters.
But back to Oga’s!!
Lounge Menu
The regular Lounge Menu for the remainder of the day likewise features drinks with and without alcohol.
Alcoholic cocktails include the Fuzzy Tauntaun ($15.00) with Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, and Simply Orange® topped with tangerine and pure cane sugar… oh, and some “Buzzz” Foam!
Okay, so… this one is delicious with plenty of peachy flavor. But that “Buzzz” foam? It makes your mouth go numb! I believe the sensation is due to the use of “Buzz buttons,” which are made from a szechuan flower said to contain a natural painkiller (and, honestly, not something I’d expect Disney to use, so it catches me by surprise). It’s a super weird sensation, but it’s very fun. Note that most of the “buzz” properties reside in the foam, you’ll still get a bit of a tingle from the drink itself.
The Dagobah Slug Slinger ($15.00) mixes Herradura Reposado Tequila and Bols Blue Curaçao with citrus juices, ginger, herbs, and bitters. It’s garnished with rosemary.
The bitters and ginger along with the scent of the rosemary as you drink (because, remember, none of the drinks are served with straws) makes this one very pungent and earthy tasting. If you prefer sweet drinks, skip this one. I mean, my friend said it tasted like branches… which, while fitting for Dagobah, doesn’t lend this one broad appeal. But another cantina patron I spoke to very much enjoyed this one. If you like bitters, this could be your new favorite.
Bespin Fizz ($17.00) features Bacardi Superior Rum and Yuzu Purée with pomegranate Juice, white cranberry juice, and “Cloud Swirl.”
This sangria-colored beverage has hints of glittery swirl! That said, because of the low-lighting in the Cantina it can be difficult to see the full effect (and the glitter doesn’t really come across in photos), but it is pretty with the swirling effect that’s further enhanced by being served in a dry ice cup to create more movement. (Luckily, I spilled mine all over the table, so we got to see the glittery swirl in full effect. LOL!) Flavor-wise, this one’s for fans of fruity beverages.
Ready for a Jedi Mind Trick (“What, do you think you’re some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that?”)? It’s Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit & Rose Vodka, John D. Taylor’s Velvet Falernum and Bols Blue Curaçao with white grape juice, lime juice, and grapefruit bitters ($14.00).
This one is served in a shorter glass, but it’s not a shot. Despite it’s bright blue color, there’s not too much to recommend this one. It’s flavor was minimal the two times I tried it.
The T-16 Skyhopper ($15.00) is a fruity, creamy mix of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Bols Melon Liqueur with kiwi, and Half & Half.
Now, this one looks a bit like the Dagobah Slug Slinger in color, but it’s topped with a whole piece of dried kiwi instead of the rosemary. It’s also different in that this one’s INSANELY sweet and fruity. WAY too sweet for me.
How about some Jet Juice ($14.00)?! Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur and Cedilla Açaí Liqueur is mixed with white grape juice and lemon juice.
This one is served as a large shot, and it lives up to its name being the strongest drink on the menu. The flavors are good together, though, so it goes down easy even though it’s strong.
The Outer Rim ($16.00) brings together Patrón Silver Tequila and Cedilla Açaí Liqueur with lime Juice and pure cane sugar topped with black salt and an exotic fruit purée.
Essentially, the Outer Rim is a fruity margarita (though not too sweet) topped with a swath of foam reminiscent of passion fruit and blood orange. The black salt is only half rim, so don’t let that deter you. If you love margaritas (like me!) this is a good pick.
Yub Nub! Is it an Ewok Celebration song? Is it a beachy drink? It’s BOTH! Yub Nub is Malibu Pineapple Rum and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum with citrus juices and passion fruit.
Fittingly, it’s served in a souvenir Endor mug (which makes this one a $42.00 drink).
Passion fruit seeds are scattered amongst the ice, giving the orange drink green color accents. It’s super fruity and sweet; no complaints.
The Blue Bantha from the Morning Specialties is joined by five other non-alcoholic drinks on the Lounge Menu. Hyperdrive (Punch It!) ($6.00) is Powerade® Mountain Berry Blast mixed with white cranberry juice, black cherry purée, and Sprite®.
It’s a sugary PUNCH, no doubt. But your kiddos will get a big kick out of the appearance, for sure (and yes, will likely enjoy the sugar rush, too).
Jabba Juice ($6.50) blends Simply Orange® with pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and blueberry popping pearls. This one is a yummy option if you love orange juice! And don’t forget — those blueberry popping pearls are Worrt eggs!
Blurrgfire ($7.00) is a sweet and spicy mix of Odwalla® Lemonade and pomegranate juice with habanero-lime. This one has a small, spicy kick from the habanero, but overall, it’s a super saturated sugary and fruity drink.
Carbon Freeze (“I love you.”; “I know.”) is Powerade® Lemon Lime and Wild Strawberry with blueberry and green apple popping pearls ($7.50).
You’ll notice it’s served in the same style cup as the Bespin Fizz to create bubbling and brewing within the cup via that dry ice action.
The Cliff Dweller combines citrus juices with coconut, hibiscus-grenadine, and Seagram’s® Ginger Ale. This one is — again — super sweet (sensing a theme?), but not as cloying as the Blurrgfire.
You’ll notice the $32.00 price tag, but that’s because it’s served in the most ADORABLE souvenir PORG mug!
Listed as the “Provision” on the menu is Oga’s Obsession.
This jello-in-a-petrie-dish snack features Odwalla® Lemonade, cotton candy flavor, and popping pearls with a “bursting mixture of dried fruit” (which are totally pop rocks).
And another snack is available if you’re visiting Oga’s Cantina outside of breakfast. Batuu Bits are a snack mix comprised of snack bits like wasabi peas, spicy chips, chocolate meringue bites (we think!) and more, for an attempt at a sweet and spicy mix. But the savory, spicy element won out in the flavor for sure.
It wasn’t our favorite thing to eat in Batuu, but I know several guests who enjoyed it.
Beers on tap include Gold Squadron Lager, Gamorrean Ale, White Wampa Ale, and Bad Motivator IPA.
You can also try all four with the Rancor Beer Flight, served in a souvenir board with four Rancor teeth for $75.00.
Spice Runner Hard Cider, unique to Batuu, is likewise served on tap.
Selections of wine on tap that you’ll only find here at the Outpost feature Toniray and Imperial Guard, both by Goldschmidt Vineyards, Sonoma.
Even outside of the drinks, though, a visit to Oga’s Cantina is obviously going to be a dream come true for so many Star Wars fans, and your visit will be part of “a day long remembered.” And the fact that there are fun and thoughtful drink offerings for both kids and adults in an unforgettable atmosphere makes this a truly special experience for fans, friends, and family to share.
May the Force be with you, Oga’s Cantina! It’s been a long time coming, and we’re so glad you’re here!
