PLAY in Galaxy’s Edge When the Disney Parks App Becomes Your Own Star Wars Datapad

Everything suddenly looks different when you set foot on Batuu…

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

And I do mean EVERYTHING. Because even your Play Disney Parks app transforms into your very own galactic Datapad in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

Star Wars: Datapad

The Play Disney Parks app is a free app available for iOS and Android devices. Typically, it gives guests the chance to play Disney-themed trivia or in-queue games and earn achievements when visiting Disney parks.

But in Black Spire Outpost, the app also becomes a tool, allowing guests to navigate their way around the village in a whole new way!

Interact

Four key functions are present in your datapad: Hack, Scan, Translate, and Tune.

Hack: The Hack function will help you interact with droids and hack into various devices and control panels around Black Spire Outpost. Your datapad will help you identify landmarks within Black Spire Outpost with devices to hack.

Notice, for instance, the small yellow square highlighted for “Panel 02E2A-02” in the screenshot above. That IS the device you’re looking for.

You’ll be prompted to interact with your screen to let the hacking commence!

Translate: Can’t read Aurebesh?

No worries, thanks to the Translate function which allows you to translate written and spoken languages on Batuu. To begin your translation visually simply aim the lens of your datapad at the phrase.

And BAM! The sign in front of this grill reads “Caution Rendering Fat.”

Your other available tools are Scan to scan objects within the spaceport to find hidden items when you investigate, say, a shipping crate or container. You may even locate special cargo and various digital goods. And Tune will allow you to listen in on satellite transmissions and hear stories of the residents of the village (and maybe even learn a secret or two).

Queue AND Land Games

Not only can you earn an achievement by taking control of the Falcon on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

You can also play an in-queue game, taking on a job for Hondo Ohnaka to prove to the space Pirate that YOU are ready to control the Millennium Falcon.

And Outpost Control is a land-wide, multi player game occurring several times daily which offers you the opportunity to show where your allegiance lies… with the First Order or with the Resistance.

The First Order intends to spy on the Resistance by installing surveillance devices on doors in the Outpost. The goal of the Resistance? To remove them! Visitors to Batuu can choose which side they’ll support by hacking the panels for the First Order OR for the Resistance.

Earn Digital Rewards

For any mission you complete, you’ll receive digital rewards! Ship schematics, star maps, and galactic credits are among your rewards.

And your Profile will be populated accordingly!

Star Wars Datapad

While the features you see above are enabled only upon entering Galaxy’s Edge, you can already learn your way around your Star Wars datapad before you set foot on Batuu. Find out how here!

This is just a small glimpse of a few of the features and interactions available on your Star Wars Datapad in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge which, as Disney reminds, is “the first land in a Disney park designed from the ground up to fully integrate with the Play Disney Parks mobile app.”

Please note, Disney provides the following regarding the Play Disney Parks app: “Message, data and roaming rates may apply. Availability subject to handset limitations and device settings and features may vary by handset, service provider or otherwise. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first. Some features require separate theme park admission.”

Will you be using your Star Wars datapad in Galaxy’s Edge? Please let us know with a comment!
