Pics and Review: Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake at Animal Kingdom’s Flame Tree Barbecue

It’s all in the name at Flame Tree Barbecue… at least, that’s how it seems at first.

Flame Tree Barbecue

You often smell the tempting fragrance of smoky barbecue on Discovery Island as it wafts from Flame Tree, drawing you in to enjoy some St. Louis Ribs, smoked chicken, or pulled pork (either in a sandwich or on top of some baked Mac and Cheese or French Fries!). But today, we’re talking about one of the non-BBQ items on the menu.

In fact, we’re at Flame Tree for a sweet treat: the Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake.

The Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake ($5.99, or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit) has been considered a “seasonal” option. But this seasonal treat has been available for a few months now, and we figured it was high time to give it a try.

A vanilla cake base is topped with caramel buttercream, streusel crumbs, and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce, all topped off with a house-made apple chip.

The caramel buttercream, which is also packed with lots of cinnamon, is wonderfully flavorful. And the streusel crumbs lend some variety in the texture, along with a bit of buttery flavor.

The vanilla cake base itself is filled with sweet apple pie filling

It’s a taste of fall in the middle of a hot summer’s day!

Like I said, we figured it was finally time to try the Salted Caramel Apple Crisp Cupcake… and now I don’t know what took us so long. It’s one of the top Disney cupcakes out there, as it turns out! So, my advice? Don’t pass this one by the next time you’re passing through Discovery Island!
