Disney World Set to Replace Long-Abandoned Hotel Buildings
Big things are happening at one of Disney World’s Deluxe resorts!
After what felt like an eternity of sitting vacant, construction and related permits indicate big changes are finally coming to some long-abandoned spaces at Disney’s BoardWalk.
Jellyrolls
Let’s begin with the former site of Jellyrolls, the resort’s longtime dueling piano bar location, which shut its doors back in April, 2025. Construction has been moving fast and furiously (but not the Fast and Furious, which is happening over at Universal), as all evidence of Jellyrolls and its marquee has been removed from the building…
…while the interior appears to have been completely gutted.
While Disney has yet to officially confirm what exactly is coming to the space, or even if it will be a Disney property or a third-party establishment, the extent of construction would indicate that something is coming soon, which would be a much-needed boon for the resort, especially if it’s a nightlife establishment. However, the former site of Jellyrolls isn’t the only building on the Boardwalk where something significant is happening.
Projects “Amazon” and “Bubbles”
Earlier this year, Disney filed construction permits for two projects at the BoardWalk, one titled “Project Amazon” and one titled “Project Bubbles” AKA Project A and B.
Project Amazon is set to replace Big River Grille & Brewing Works, a major restaurant space that has been shuttered since all the way back in 2024.
Meanwhile, Project Bubbles is slated for the large space that formerly housed the Promenade Fine Art Gallery, which closed in 2025.
In early June, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new Notice of Commencement permit to install signage at the BoardWalk. The project’s contractor is Design Communications Ltd., a custom sign fabricator specializing in architectural specialties and experiential signage that has worked with Disney on both the Walt Disney Studios and the upcoming Monstropolis projects in Hollywood Studios. Work on potential signage indicates to us that the nature of these projects could officially be revealed soon.
Disney’s BoardWalk is set to enter a new era with major construction finally replacing some of the hotel’s long-shuttered buildings. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on these upcoming projects.
