REVIEW: We’re BEGGING You Not to Sleep on This Tiny Disney World Restaurant!
When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. When you’re planning your time in Magic Kingdom, your focus might immediately be pulled to the ultra-immersive restaurants like Be Our Guest Restaurant and Cinderella’s Royal Table. And even though the park’s “flashier” table service restaurants have plenty of upsides, we’re begging you not to sleep on this unassuming little spot!
Near the entrance to Liberty Square, you’ll find Sleepy Hollow Refreshments tucked in with the gorgeous backdrop of Cinderella Castle. It might not be as large as some of the other Magic Kingdom quick-service restaurants, but we’ve been fans of Sleepy Hollow for years, so we decided to stop by to see if it still holds up against the competition!
Atmosphere
Sleepy Hollow Refreshments is located in Liberty Square, with a nice view of Cinderella Castle as a backdrop. It’s a pretty small spot, so be sure to keep an eye out for it as you enter Liberty Square from the main hub of the park!
There is no indoor seating, but there are some outdoor tables behind the building. Seating is pretty limited, though, so if you have a large party or kiddos that need to find a seat quickly, you may want to avoid peak lunch and dinner times so you’re more likely to get a table right away.
There is some shade from the umbrellas over the tables, but it doesn’t always provide 100% coverage depending on the time of day. With that in mind, you may want to be strategic about the table you pick, especially if you’re visiting during one of the hotter months of the year.
But, on the plus side, you will get to enjoy a view of the castle in the background while you eat! Speaking of eating, let’s look at the menu!
Menu
As a smaller quick-service spot, Sleepy Hollow’s menu is relatively short and sweet (literally). You’ll find a few different waffle and funnel cake options, with different toppings and flavor profiles. Plus, they also have a hand-dipped corn dog served with house-made chips, if you’re looking for something a bit more savory.
You’ll also find a pretty standard assortment of beverages, including fountain drinks, juice, milk, and hot drinks.
Now, for the star of the show…the FOOD!
Eats
First up, let’s talk about the Waffle with Berries, Powdered Sugar, and Whipped Cream. This might not be the newest or most groundbreaking menu item you’ll find around Disney World, but oh man, it’s a classic for a reason! The waffle is surprisingly delicate and way different from the denser, heavier Mickey Waffles you’ll find around the parks.
You get a thin, crispy edge that immediately gives way to a really soft bite in the center. The berries are fresh and tart, which gives a nice balance to the sweetness of the other ingredients. Just beware, if you go heavy on the syrup, it can overpower the flavors and ruin the structural integrity of the waffle.
There are tons of things to love about this waffle! It’s light enough to not weigh you down in the Florida heat, and definitely shareable for two. Plus, for $8.79, it’s a solid deal for a shareable dish. That makes it a great choice if you’re looking for something fast with family-friendly flavors that’s also budget-friendly. But pro-tip, just make sure you watch how much syrup you use, so you don’t end up with a soggy waffle!
But that wasn’t the only waffle we grabbed! We also had the Waffle with Sweet and Spicy Maple Chicken. This one has that same delicate waffle, topped with chicken tenders, which are perfectly fried with just the right amount of sticky-sweet hot glaze all over them.
Despite the name, we’d say it’s a slow burn at most — there’s not a lot of spice, just a hint for flavor, so if you’re averse to spicy foods, you don’t necessarily need to automatically count this one out. They’re topped with a little sprinkling of herbs, which didn’t give any noticeable flavor to us, but did make it look beautiful and appetizing. The waffle itself was just as good as the first one, and the hot maple drizzle really brings the dish together.
We loved this take on chicken and waffles! This could be a great choice for you if you’re a fan of the classic chicken and waffles combo. There is a tiny kick, so if you’re 100% anti-spice, you might want to skip it, but it’s mild enough that it could work for most levels of spice tolerance. It’s a little more expensive at $12.29, but still a good choice for a meal on the go or a shareable snack for two!
Finally, we also grabbed one of the funnel cakes — the Funnel Cake with Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, & Whipped Cream. They really know how to do a funnel cake at Sleepy Hollow! It was super crispy and consistent throughout, with so many little ridges to crunch on. The chocolate hazelnut spread is rich, but the bananas and whipped cream offer a lighter balance, which makes it a perfectly decadent treat.
A previous version of this dish also used to have berries, so if you’re ordering it for the first time in a while, heads up that the only fruit it’s topped with now is banana. This one is super delicious and RICH, so yet another shareable option for $8.49! If you like bananas and Nutella, it might be worth putting on your snack list!
So, what’s the verdict?
