Former Disney World Cast Members Reveal the Most Bizarre Things That Happened to Them at Work

Given the sheer scope of Walt Disney World and the overwhelming amount of guests they deal with, it’s no surprise that Cast Members have encountered their fair share of bizarre experiences over the years.

From celebrity sightings and the difficulty of maneuvering the maze of the Magic Kingdom’s Utilidors to bizarre encounters with guests, each of these stories exemplifies the kinds of things Cast Members deal with on a daily basis.

Celebrities Like Their Coffee Too

A former Cast Member who worked at one of Disney’s on-property Starbucks dished on some of their more famous clientele. As they explained it, while most celebs and dignitaries would skip the lines as part of VIP tours, some regulars would wait in line (and anyone whose been to a Disney Starbucks knows how long those lines can get) to get their caffeine fix. As the CM put it, “It was really funny just having a monotonous work day when all of a sudden an actor from your favorite show or the influencer you follow was at your register.”

An Unfortunate Shower

Another ex-CM shared a story of a front gate Cast Member who stopped a guest from entering the park with an open beer can. When told they couldn’t bring the alcohol in, the guest responded by throwing said beer on the Cast Member. Suffice to say, the guest was escorted away by security.

Lost on Their First Day

A Cast Member shared a story about training at EPCOT, only to be scheduled for their first solo shift at Magic Kingdom, specifically at the Town Square Theater.

When making their way through the Magic Kingdom’s famously maze-like underground Utilidor tunnels without guidance, this CM got completely lost. No one nearby could clearly explain where to go, and they ended up 20 minutes late to their very first shift. Not exactly a “magical” first impression.

A… Unique Haircut

An All-Star Resort CM shared an… interesting story about a woman approaching the hotel’s front desk and asking for scissors to cut her hair. When told that scissors couldn’t be handed out, she asked for a trash can instead. The CM provided a small trash can and then watched in stunned silence as the guest used the front desk scissors to cut their hair off right there in the lobby. According to the Cast Member, they immediately threw the scissors away while still processing what had just happened.

ANYthing for a Selfie

A Cast Member working at the then-Splash Mountain shared a tale of being met by a disgruntled guest exiting the ride after it was forced to evacuate guests. The guest had been riding with their family and was upset they had been deprived of their full ride experience, to the point that they demanded to be provided with a “magical FastPass” for his entire family to ride whatever they pleased for LIFE. Suffice to say, said guest didn’t take it well when told that kind of pass didn’t exist.

As a postscript to that story, the CM went backstage, and another Cast Member there informed them the ride had been closed due to a guest leaping OUT of their log mid-ride to take a selfie with one of the animatronics and provided information about the guest so they could keep an eye out. The guest? Of course, it was the person who requested the FastPass.

An A-Maze-Ing Sight

A Cast Member who worked during EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival told a tale of several guests who had… overindulged in libations… removed their shoes and proceeded into the decorative, calf-high hedge maze in the France Pavilion. When security arrived, the inebriated guests proceeded to run the tiny maze in an attempt to evade the guards… AKA the maze that’s inches high and easily escapable. Suffice to say, they didn’t get far.
