CONFIRMED: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has a NEW Map…and You’re Probably Not Gonna Like It
I am devastated to be the one to show you this, but DinoLand U.S.A. is off the map at Animal Kingdom.
Yep, after opening in 1998, DinoLand has become extinct, and even though we were among the final to ride DINOSAUR on closing day, we had to come back in the morning to witness the changes. Not only was all of DinoLand officially blocked off, but when we picked up a park map, we saw changes we’ve been dreading for months now. If you’re sensitive to Disney nostalgia and permanently closed attractions, look away now!
Opening up the map, it looks like there’s a huge green space where our beloved DinoLand used to live.
No, really, y’all, it’s GONE! In its place, it says “Future home of Tropical Americas.” Don’t get us wrong, we’re pretty thrilled for the new land, but there’s nothing worse than losing a huge section of the park. DinoLand has been slowly closing for a while now, but the Dino Institute is officially disbanded.
What is this Tropical Americas we speak of? Meet Pueblo Esperanza, hopefully your newfound favorite land when it officially opens in 2027. It will include an Encanto-themed attraction where you get to go inside Casita, a carousel, and an Indiana Jones ride.
This will be the old DINOSAUR attraction, which is turning into Indiana Jones. Over in Disneyland, they have an Indiana Jones attraction that uses the same technology (and if you’ve grown up riding one and then hopped on the other, you’d know how weird it feels), so the transformation made a lot of sense.
Even though it uses the same technology, it will be a new storyline than the Disneyland version. In the concept art, the jeeps look the same — minus the Dino Institute branding. In the Disneyland version, they have fake steering wheels in the driver’s seat, so I’m secretly hoping they add it here, too.
