Budget Disney Hacks That Feel Illegal

Budgeting for your Disney World trip? Oh, do we have HACKS for you!

Getting to Disney World requires going through lots of tolls

Of course, the biggest tips are to check Disney World’s Special Offers page before you book and to make use of any discounts you have. However, some smaller, sneaky budget hacks help us nip and tuck our budget along the way. We’re here to share the list!

Buy Souvenirs in Advance

First of all, we’re going to recommend that you do some souvenir shopping in advance, especially if you have little ones. I know, it may feel like this advice defeats the whole purpose of getting souvenirs, but it can be a big money saver if you don’t have to take your kids through all the gift shops and fall victim to the dozens of shelves of toys and plushes.

For example, you could go ahead and order something like this Marie Urupocha-Chan Sakura Plush from the Disney Store online and have it delivered to your house, then your child could get it as a “gift” at the hotel. A little extra magic AND saving the budget!

We also recommend snagging things like autograph books in advance — you’ll save money ordering these as compared to buying them in the parks. You can get the Disney Mickey and Friends Deluxe Autograph Book with Pen from Amazon.

Bring Your Own Snacks

Along the same lines, we often recommend that you bring your own snacks to the park! Many people don’t realize they can pack their own snacks or even full lunches in their park bags. If you’re traveling on a budget, this can be a huge cost-saving measure (even the cheapest Disney World snacks are often $5 each).

For easy park bag snack storage, use something like these Whiskware Disney Princess Frozen Stackable Snack Containers. They’ll keep your snacks fresh and separate from the rest of your bag.

Skip the Park Hopper

My next money-saving tip is to skip the Park Hopper tickets! Many people upgrade to this offering, thinking that it’ll add more flexibility to their visit, but in reality, it often adds more difficulty. The Disney World parks aren’t super close to each other, and it typically takes an hour to travel between them (including the time to walk out, wait for transportation, ride transportation, go through security, and get into the next park).

Magic Kingdom

Doing all that moving back and forth means that you’ll be wasting some of your park time in transit. Also, it’ll likely tire you out even more! Save the money, time, and energy by skipping Park Hopper. If you only have 2 or 3 days, it might actually be easier to just skip a park or two entirely.

Do a Split Stay

It can be so tempting to spend all your budget on a fancy hotel! Staying at the Grand Floridian sounds nice, right?! But if you do a split stay, you could save money on your hotel budget and still enjoy the fancy amenities for a couple of nights.

Disney’s Pop Century

Save the nicer hotel for the days when you can take some time off from the parks to actually enjoy it. On the days when you’re doing the parks open to close, choose a Value Resort, a Disney Springs hotel, or an option off-property. If you’re switching from one Disney World hotel to another, they can even help you move your luggage to your next stay.

Try the Swan and Dolphin!

If you’re hoping to get a nice stay for a more budget-friendly price, might we recommend the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin? This group of three hotels is owned by Marriott and located in the EPCOT Resort Area. They get many of the same perks at the Disney World Deluxe Resorts.

The Dolphin

But the really good news? For much of the year, the hotel rooms here are cheaper than other Deluxe Resorts in Disney World. You can also sometimes get special deals on these hotels that aren’t available for Disney Resorts. They’re just a 10-minute walk or boat ride away from both Hollywood Studios and EPCOT — it doesn’t get much better than that!

Get Your Phone Charger Ahead of Time

We’re big FuelRod users here at DFB — they’re portable phone chargers that can be purchased at kiosks around Disney World and then swapped for fully charged versions after you use all their battery power. It’s actually a rather convenient system! But if you buy the chargers on Amazon ahead of time, you might save some money.

Swapping out for free

They sell FuelRods in a 2-pack on Amazon, and it typically costs less per charger than they do individually in the Disney World machines. Order them now, stow them in your park bag, then swap them out for free on vacation.
