A NEW Permit Has Been Filed For A Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction

More updates are coming to Magic Kingdom! The popular theme park has been quite busy lately with tons of updates and new additions.

The park is currently working on new additions like Piston Peak and Villains Land, while popular attractions like Big Thunder Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are getting some TLC. Now, more updates are on the horizon because a new permit has been filed for a classic Disney attraction. 

Progress is coming! In a Notice of Commencement, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new permit for the Carousel of Progress. The notice details work that will take place at 1205 Monorail Way, Bay Lake, FL 32830, which is the home of the attraction.

The description of improvement details that the work will be to “Install FA/FP systems” at the location. An FA/PA system might sound pretty cool, but in reality, it’s just Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems. This makes sense because the contractor on the permit is listed as Grunau Fire Protection.

The work will be complete by February 5th, 2027, but we would bet it will be done well before then. While this might not be the most exciting update, it does hint at changes coming to the attraction. In August 2025, Disney announced that the Carousel of Progress would be receiving a pretty big update by adding an animatronic figure of Walt Disney himself!

The animatronic will be in a new opening scene and feature Walt in an outfit he wore in the early 1960s, around the time the ride was being developed and then later debuted. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an animatronic of the creator. Disneyland debuted a new attraction called Walt Disney – A Magical Life that features an animatronic of Walt Disney as well.

So yes, this permit is just for fire systems, but it could hint at more updates and changes coming to the attraction throughout the year. Disney has shared that more news will come regarding these changes in the future, as well as updates to John, Sarah, and the rest of the family featured in the attraction.
