FIRST LOOK at the CHANGES to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Disney World
We are eagerly awaiting our chance to battle Emperor Zurg once again and attempt to become a Galactic Hero in Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom. The point-and-shoot attraction is currently undergoing refurbishment, and it is expected to reopen in spring 2026.
This popular attraction is getting quite a few changes during its refurbishment! There will be new ride vehicles, new targets, new blasters, and a new character! Walt Disney Imagineering recently shared a new look at the ride’s latest character, Buddy, and we are getting even more excited for the reopening.
While Disney has previously introduced us to Buddy and we have seen concept art of the new character, now we are getting to see her for the first time inside of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin! Mike from Walt Disney Imagineering introduces us to Buddy and shares a bit about her.
Mike says that Buddy is optimistic, encouraging, and as confident in our skills as she is in us. Buddy is a support bot at Star Command, and she helps us to get ready for our mission by making sure blasters are calibrated, ensuring our star cruisers are ready to go, and giving us the chance to have some target practice.
Buddy has a youthful energy that is trapped inside her big, robot body. She brings a feeling of play and excitement that you get to go on an adventure with your hero!
You can even spot a nod to the “If You Had Wings” attraction on Buddy. This attraction used to be located in the space now occupied by Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. We always love learning about the easter eggs that Imagineers incorporate into attractions!
Buddy isn’t the only thing coming to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin! The ride will also be getting new ride vehicles, with designs inspired by Buzz Lightyear. The vehicles will also have video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other features.
There will also be new targets. Before, the targets were static, but new technology will allow them to react and light up when you hit them. Plus, there will also be new blasters! These will be handheld blasters, so you can move around more freely. They will also include an always-on laser and come in two different colors (one for each guest in the vehicle).
We are in the Disney parks every single day, and we are always on the lookout for the newest Disney news! Whether you are planning your next Disney trip or just love seeing the newest Disney news, make sure to stay tuned to DFB.
