REVIEW: This New Ice Cream Taco Is Turning Heads in Disney World
Salt & Straw really is no stranger to pushing dessert boundaries, and their newest creation at Disney Springs is definitely turning heads.

We stopped by to try the Tacolate Ice Cream Taco, a treat that sounded playful, bold, and unlike anything else you’ll find in the area. With Salt & Straw’s reputation for inventive flavors, we went in hoping for something exciting, and what we got left us with a lot to talk about.
The Tacolate Ice Cream Taco is listed at $9, and right from the start, that price set the tone for our experience. Nine dollars for an ice cream taco is already pretty bold, but once we got it in hand, the size made the price feel even steeper. This thing is tiny. When we opened the box, we wondered if something was missing because it really is that small.

Speaking of the box, the taco comes pre-packaged. We’re talking a full printed box that’s pulled straight from the freezer, and inside that box is a second sealed wrapper holding the taco itself.

The whole experience feels more like picking up a specialty grocery store item than ordering a freshly made treat from a counter. While the packaging keeps the taco well-protected and easy to transport, it does take away that freshly-crafted Salt & Straw vibe we’ve come to expect.

For those wondering what’s actually inside this thing, here’s the breakdown. The Tacolate Ice Cream Taco starts with an extra crunchy waffle taco shell.

Inside is a block of cinnamon-ancho ice cream, completely coated in dark chocolate. The shell is also dipped in more dark chocolate and sprinkled with puffed quinoa for a little crunch.

You also get two small sauces on the side: a raspberry drizzle and a hot honey.

The flavor profile is definitely unique. The cinnamon-ancho ice cream is smooth and creamy, but it packs a surprising kick. The spice level isn’t overwhelming, but it’s present in every bite. At first, we weren’t sure if the heat was coming from the ice cream or from the hot honey, but once the honey was out of the equation, the spice lingered. It’s a slow, warm heat, and it sticks around.

The dark chocolate coating works well here. It’s not too bitter and not too sweet, leaning more toward a lighter dark chocolate that balances the cinnamon and ancho. Our Thoughts
Salt & Straw is famous for crafting flavors that feel bold, adventurous, and sometimes downright quirky. The Tacolate Ice Cream Taco definitely fits into their brand without crossing into their more extreme territory. It’s a clever concept with a balanced spicy-sweet ice cream, crisp shell, smooth toppings, and solid craftsmanship.

The biggest issue we have is the price. Nine dollars for something this small is tough to justify, even with the added sauces. It looks and feels like a novelty snack, not something filling or shareable, and that will make many guests hesitate. While the flavor is good and the texture is interesting, the portion feels a bit small for the cost.

Overall, the Tacolate Ice Cream Taco is a fun one-time experience for anyone who loves spicy ice cream or Salt & Straw’s experimental side. It tastes good, it’s unique, and it photographs beautifully thanks to how frozen and sturdy it stays. But would we go back and buy it again? Probably not, because for us, the price outweighs the enjoyment.
