NEWS: A HUGE Expansion (Including a NEW Hotel) Is Coming to Shanghai Disney Resort

Shanghai Disney Resort is celebrating a huge milestone: welcoming its 100 millionth guest in just over 9 years. And what better way to celebrate than announcing an expansion? Even more Disney fun will be coming to the resort, and Shanghai Disney just shared a sneak peek.

Shanghai Disney Resort just announced plans to build a brand-new hotel AND expand its shopping, dining, and entertainment district. The new hotel will be located near the entrance to Shanghai Disney, and the development will feature new shopping experiences.

Shanghai Disney hasn’t announced too much about the hotel, except that it will be Disney-themed. What type of theme, though? We will just have to wait and see! This will be the fourth themed hotel at Shanghai Disney and will be the closest to the park’s Main Entrance. The hotel will welcome guests into a “premium destination infused with Disney stories and imagination.” It will feature “unprecedented immersive storytelling experiences in a way that Disney uniquely brings to life.” In addition to the hotel, a new Disney shopping destination will also be built. The store will be similar to the World of Disney Store on the opposite side of the park’s main entrance.

The resort currently has two hotels — Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel — with a third one currently under construction. The third hotel is a nine-story deluxe hotel inspired by Shanghai’s architectural legacy and will be decorated in the Art Nouveau style. The hotel’s guiding principle is “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.” It is currently undergoing interior fit-out and facade installation, and upon opening to guests, it will offer an “immersive themed accommodation experience.”

The new hotel is not the only expansion coming to Shanghai Disney Resort, though. Back in September, the resort also announced an expansion coming to Soaring Over the Horizon. The attraction will be getting an approximately 50% increase in current capacity, AND there will be a new special ending for the attraction!

The resort is also currently working on a new Spider-Man-themed land coming to Shanghai Disneyland. This new land will feature a “high-energy thrill coaster” that is a “high-speed, fully immersive experience.” The coaster will feature a forward AND backward launch — talk about a thrilling experience!
