Disney Needs New Visa Cardholder Perks
Major changes are coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with the construction of Monsters, Inc. land, the transition of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster to a Muppet theme, and the transformation of Star Wars Launch Bay into a new version of the Magic of Disney Animation, all changing the face of the park forever.
In my 7+ years writing about Disney’s theme parks, I’ve learned to look at change from all angles, large and small. Which in turn led me to realize that beyond the major changes coming to the park, the closure of Star Wars Launch Bay is going to affect a certain subset of guests: Disney Visa Cardmembers.
For years now, the Launch Bay has been home to one of the most popular in-park perks available to Disney Visa holders: Exclusive meet & greets with Star Wars characters. In recent years, this meet & greet has been with Darth Vader, and included a free download of the guest’s photo.
With Star Wars Launch Bay having closed on September 25th, a new Star Wars photo opportunity has been introduced for Disney Visa Cardmembers. Located at the Cardmember location between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land, this new offering (available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily) allows Cardmembers to have a photo taken that will be “digitally enhanced with a Holocron Darth Vader projection to remember your visit to a galaxy far, far away!” In other words, the meet & greet element has been removed, at least for now.
Disney Visa Cardmembers visiting Hollywood Studios are still eligible for an exclusive meet & greet with Frozen’s Olaf. This perk is offered from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM daily at Celebrity Spotlight in the park’s Echo Lake area.
It remains to be seen if the new Vader Holocron photo opportunity is permanent or will be replaced by a different Cardmember experience once construction at the park is completed. Of course, there are still many other perks and benefits available to Disney Visa Cardmembers, including:
- Special financing options for Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and other U.S. Disney Destination vacations.
- Special shopping savings at DisneyStore.com and at select locations at U.S. Disney Parks.
- The ability to earn points for signing up for the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle. According to Disney, “When you subscribe to the Disney Bundle (Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+) you can earn back $16.99 per month for up to 3 consecutive months in statement credits on qualifying Disney Bundle purchases, or other qualifying subscriptions or add-ons purchased directly at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com or ESPNPlus.com that total $16.99 or more when you use your Disney Premier Visa Card.”
- Special cardmember-only VIP packages for Disney on Broadway shows, including tickets to the show, premium seating, a non-alcoholic beverage in a keepsake cup, and a commemorative print.
20% off your first year of an annual Marvel Unlimited subscription, your “one-stop destination for over 30,000 comics spanning the Marvel Universe, when you use your Disney Visa Credit Card.”
Construction at Hollywood Studios has led to the end of a popular perk previously available to Disney Visa Cardmembers. Stay tuned to DFB for more on changes at Walt Disney World.
