Disney Announces Plan to Solve a Long-running Ride Problem

There has been one big problem that Disney fans have been begging Disney World to fix, and it’s finally happening!

Big things are happening in Disney World right now! From Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster transforming into a brand-new Muppets-themed attraction, to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin gearing up for an intergalactic refresh, and even Big Thunder Mountain Railroad getting an update, it’s clear Disney is giving some of its most beloved rides a next-generation glow-up. And now, one of EPCOT’s most popular attractions is about to join the list, and this update is pretty cool.

In case you missed it, we reported that Frozen Ever After in the Norway Pavilion is getting a major upgrade! Since opening in 2016, this charming boat ride has taken guests on a magical journey through Arendelle, straight into Queen Elsa’s glittering ice palace. The attraction has been a hit from day one, thanks to its incredible storytelling, catchy music, and jaw-dropping technology.

However, there was one part of the ride that really bothered fans: the projected faces. While the bodies of the characters were animatronic, the faces of the characters were a projection, making our icy friends look a little — odd. While they allowed for expressive animation, many visitors felt they didn’t quite blend with the rest of the figures.

But now, after nearly a decade, Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff are getting brand-new, high-tech animatronic upgrades that promise to make the experience even more magical. Disney heard you, and they’re fixing it!

Beginning in early 2026, Frozen Ever After’s most famous faces, Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff, will debut completely new animatronic heads inspired by the incredible figures seen at World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland. These newer models feature more realistic, true-to-film details and advanced motion technology that gives the characters a seamless, lifelike look, meaning no projections are needed.

This update is a full-circle moment for Frozen Ever After. The attraction helped pioneer the technology that paved the way for rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and now it’s benefiting from the next generation of innovations. Once complete, this upgrade will make the Norway Pavilion’s star attraction look even more magical and remind everyone just how far Disney’s Imagineers are willing to go to keep making attractions better.
