A MAJOR Ride Change Happens in Magic Kingdom Next Week

There are so many changes coming to Disney World!

From new lands to the Cinderella Castle updates, we have lots to look forward to in the next few years! While we wait on some major projects to come to life, a first-time ride overlay begins soon. 

In case you missed it, we recently went to Destination D23 in Disney World, where we got to hear directly from Disney Imagineers about behind-the-scenes stories, Disney history, new things coming to the theme parks, and more! One of those big announcements was a limited-time overlay coming to Tron Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom.

To celebrate the upcoming release of a new movie, Tron: Ares, a vibrant red overlay will replace the current blue hues of the ride. In addition to the color switch, the ride will sound different, too! The ride will also be getting some new music by Nine Inch Nails, inspired by the music of the new movie. Disney wrote, “Adding to the immersive visuals, the pulsating industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails will drive the ride’s energy, pushing your experience between the Grid and reality into a fully immersive, futuristic symphony of light, speed, and sound.” Now, we’ve gotten another new look at the upcoming changes!

Disney also shared that the bikes will take on a red hue to match the red overlay. Disney has also shared a new photo to show what the bikes will look like, along with your ride photos during the limited-time overlay!

The overlay will be at Magic Kingdom starting September 15th and Shanghai Disneyland starting September 16th. The new Disney film releases on October 10th, 2025, and you can see the official trailer here.
