“I Know How Iconic It Is, But It’s So Ugly” — Disney Adults Reveal the Most Hideous Things at Disney World

For all its fun and pixie dust, even Disney World has its not-so-magical moments. We asked, and Disney Adults aren’t holding back about the eyesores they wish would disappear.

Contemporary Resort

In fact, when we asked Disney Adults to spill the tea on what they consider the most hideous things in the parks, past and present, they didn’t hold back. From resort architecture that feels more 1970s airport than fairy tale, to attractions that are underwhelming, these are the design missteps and visual nightmares that still make fans cringe.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

For all its history and status as an opening-day icon, Disney’s Contemporary Resort doesn’t exactly win any beauty contests among Disney adults. One reader put it bluntly: “I know how iconic it is, but it’s so ugly and so loud.” With its stark, concrete-heavy exterior and the open atrium in the middle of the hotel filled with gift shops, Chef Mickey’s, and Contempo Cafe, it gives more “airport terminal” feel than a relaxing vacation escape. Did we mention the monorail that cuts right through it? Sure, it’s a piece of Disney history, but some fans think it’s long overdue for a visual glow-up.

Mission Space

Mission: SPACE was supposed to be EPCOT’s thrilling answer to space exploration, but despite a facelift the exterior got a few years ago, it’s still struggling to win over fans. Many would argue the ride hasn’t aged well. Its aesthetic and design are very early 2000s, and the ride’s storyline of an astronaut training simulator doesn’t hold up well compared to the heavily themed and immersive rides, lands, and attractions that have come to dominate the theme park space over the last two decades.

Wonders of Life Pavilion

Once a hub of futuristic fun and educational charm, the Wonders of Life Pavilion now feels more like a forgotten relic than a celebration of wellness and science. Tucked away in EPCOT, this golden dome has been sitting in limbo for years, a shell of what it used to be. Though Disney had originally wanted to turn it into the Play! pavilion, those plans have all but vanished over the last 5 years. What was once a vibrant corner of EPCOT is now a big “what’s going on here?” question mark.

Sorcerer’s Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Now, this might stir the pot, but one reader shared that the Sorcerer’s Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was an eyesore. They wrote, “Ruined the OG vibe of MGM,” while another reader said. “Was glad to see it go.” When it appeared in 2001, the Sorcerer’s Hat was meant to be a magical centerpiece. The hat awkwardly blocked the view of the park’s iconic Chinese Theater, disrupting the original symmetry and cinematic atmosphere that made the park special. It was removed in 2015; however, there is a new one coming back to the parks.

The hat is coming to “The Magic of Disney Animation,” a new transformation at Star Wars: Launch Bay. This new space will invite guests to experience the magic of Disney animation through drawing classes, a playground inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art from Alice in Wonderland, and watch portraits come to life before their eyes.
