Why We’re Anxious About the EPCOT Festival of the Arts This Year
EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts is one of our absolute favorite festivals every year.
We love how picturesque and unique the food items are, all the incredible art and entertainment that can be found all around the park, and of course, we love seeing our favorite dragon, Figment, front and center! However, we’d be lying to you if we said we weren’t worried about the festival for one very specific reason.
The Festival of the Arts takes place almost exclusively during the winter months in Florida. Many people living outside of the state, or even the country, may think that November and December are the chilliest months for Florida, but the coldest temperatures usually hit in January and February. And this year, experts are predicting an EXTRA chilly winter. Don’t be caught off guard — it really does get cold, even in Florida!
Notice those jackets in the crowds? A lot of native Floridians or those from warmer climates find the 50- and 60-degree temperatures (sometimes as low as the 30s and 40s) quite chilly, especially if it’s a cloudy or windy day, which it often can be. That means that if you’re not dressed appropriately or at least have a jacket “just in case,” you could find yourself pretty miserable…pretty fast.
It’s important for you to be prepared for the colder temperatures, even if you think you can handle a little chilly weather. Florida often has way more moisture in the air than other areas, which can make the cold feel even more intense. Florida winter hits differently — trust us! If you find yourself ill-prepared, you may wind up in a terrible mood and want to leave earlier than anticipated or push through but not really take the time to enjoy what you’re experiencing. And in a park like EPCOT, where most Festival of the Arts activities are outdoors, you want to be comfortable!
While Disney sells a plethora of jackets, most people don’t want to drop $50+ on a jacket or sweatshirt just because they left theirs behind. That’s often not a purchase you’ll be happy about! If you’re planning a trip to Disney World this winter, prepare yourselves because, according to AccuWeather, the coldest temperatures this year are on the way.
So, if you’re heading to Florida sometime during the Festival of the Arts, take a close look at the weather and LAYER UP! It’s easier to take layers off as it gets warmer, but then you still have them to put back on when that sun goes down again (and it gets cold, QUICK!). We’ll be here updating you on all the latest news, so stay tuned to DFB!
