RIDE EVACUATION ALERT: Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT

Disney rides are Imagineering wonders — and Imagineering wonders take a lot of work to keep them running in tip-top shape.

Every once in a while, though, something can cause a ride to suddenly stop. Maybe a rider dropped something when they were getting out and Cast Members needed to retrieve it for safety reasons, or maybe something mechanical happened. It’s typically a quick fix and rides will often start back up within a few minutes, but sometimes — a ride needs to be evacuated!

A Disney World ride infested with rats was evacuated over the weekend. Okay, the rats are part of the ride and are technically supposed to be there — but the evacuation part is still pretty exciting! Disney rides can malfunction or suddenly stop for a multitude of reasons, but they typically start back up within a few minutes or so. In rare and sometimes extreme cases, a ride will end up needing to be evacuated entirely — and that’s exactly what happened at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT!

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Thanks to our pal Tyler (@tstick1 over on Instagram) for sending us this video! You can see a Cast Member guiding people out of the ride — behind one of the giant screens designed to make you feel like you’ve been shrunk down to the size of a rat!

Tyler shared that they were enjoying the second-to-last scene of the ride when it suddenly stopped. After around five minutes, the lights came on and an announcement was made that riders would soon be evacuated. Cast Members didn’t share what exactly caused the problem, but it was quite sudden according to Tyler.

When rides suddenly stop, it’s important to be patient and listen to Cast Member instructions. Typically, an announcement will be made advising you to stay in your seat with another announcement ahead of when the ride will start up again. If you’re ever evacuated from a ride, Cast Members will instruct you on how to safely do so.

New numbers on the vehicles

In other Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure news — the ride recently began using a Single Rider Line! While it had technically been there since the ride opened, the Single Rider Line had rarely — if ever — been used. But now, it seems to be sticking around! We’ve found waits in this line to be significantly lower. If you want to use it, though, keep in mind you will be separated from the rest of your party — and likely riding with strangers.

If that doesn’t bother you, then the Single Rider Line can be a great way to skip the regular standby line!
