Disney World’s Hotel Cancelation Policy Will Change in 2025. Here’s How To Plan Ahead
Disney World has already undergone some big changes in 2024 (with more to come), but there are even MORE big changes coming in 2025.
There are a few things changing in 2025 that we’re already aware of. For example, we know that Disney World ticket prices are going up in 2025. Disney CEO Bob Iger also said that a lot of Disney projects would come to fruition in 2025, whatever that means (honestly, he wasn’t very specific). There’s also a big Disney World hotel change coming in 2025, and we’re going to help you plan for that.
We recently learned that Disney World’s hotel cancellation policy would change in 2025 for room-only reservations. So if you have a hotel room reservation in 2025, you can now cancel that reservation up to eight days before your arrival date without a penalty.
So what does this mean? Before 2025, you can cancel in as little as five days without a penalty. So if something comes up before your trip and you can’t make it, you’ll need to let your Disney hotel know at least eight days before you’re set to arrive or you could lose part of your refund for canceling.
However, the policy for vacation packages will not change: if you booked your hotel as part of a vacation package (which would include your hotel reservation and park tickets), you can cancel the entire package up to 30 days from your arrival date and receive a full refund. If you cancel from two to 29 days before, though, you will lose $200 as a cancellation fee. If you cancel the day before or on the day of your arrival, though, you completely forfeit the entire cost of the vacation package.
So what you can do to plan ahead is for the worst-case scenario. (You know the old saying: “Expect the best, but plan for the worst.)” If you’re worried you may have to cancel your trip last minute (within those eight days), check to see if your credit card has trip cancellation or interruption insurance. Many travel-based credit cards offer this, so if you don’t get all your money back from Disney, you could still recoup your costs through that insurance.
If your credit card does not cover trip cancellation or interruption, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance. Sure, it will cost a little extra, but it will also offer you peace of mind if you think something may pop up before your trip and you’re worried about not getting a full refund. Basically, Disney would still keep their portion of what you paid, but the travel insurance would cover everything else as long as you meet certain criteria (pro tips: read the terms carefully before signing up).
Both credit cards with insurance and travel insurance policies will also often cover any other travel-related fees you’ve incurred on the trip, including airfare, transportation to and from Orlando International Airport, and more.
The most important thing you can do, though, is be aware of this change in Disney World’s hotel cancellation policy. Make sure to contact Disney World immediately after you discover you can’t make the trip. Don’t put it off or you could end up having to pay for much of the trip anyway, and no one wants that, right?
Stay tuned to DFB for more.
