Campaign Launched For Family of Disneyland Employee Killed in Tragic Accident

Nearly two weeks after Disneyland employee Bonnye Lear died due to injuries sustained in an accident at the park, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to aid her family.

Lear, an administrator at the park’s exclusive Club 33, fell from a golf cart in a backstage area on June 5th. She suffered massive trauma, and succumbed to her injuries on June 7th.

According to the Lear Family’s GoFundMe page, the campaign has been launched by a family friend to help the family — including Lear’s three children — raise “funds for any costs associated with the rectification of this tragic accident including cremation, memorial service, a strong legal team to seek justice for her death, and any other unexpected costs.”

The page says that Lear was a “kind, gentle soul and loving personality” who would “light up a room with a level of professionalism that was unmatched.” The page also praises the 24 year Disneyland employee as a “firework [who] spread her light to all of those around her with enthusiasm and grace.”

The Lear family page also takes the time to give thanks for all the “support and love they have received” since Bonnye’s passing, before ending on the message that “Your contributions will make a huge difference. Thank you for taking the time to read and helping us honor Bonnye’s memory as the Lear family navigates this unimaginable grieving process.”

As of press time, the Lears’ GoFundMe has raised nearly $6,000 of a $100,000 goal.

According to reports, investigators from both the the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CAL/OSHA) as well as the Anaheim police department have opened investigations into Lear’s death, which is standard procedure.

Disney’s public comment on the matter has come in the form of a statement from Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock, which read in part, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her. At this time, we are focused on supporting her family and our cast members through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need.”
