REVIEW: Disney Just Released a TON of New Treats, and We Can’t Stop Thinking About These 5
Attention, Disney fans! It’s time to listen up — we’re here to discuss one of our favorite topics: FOOD. Disneyland has had no shortage of new treats lately, and today, we’re back to cover a whole new lineup of snacks!
There’s a LOT happening at Disneyland Resort right now. We’ve seen some restaurant updates and reported on all the rides closed for refurbishment, but now it’s time to talk SNACKS. Disney just released a whole slew of new snacks, and we made it our mission to give them a try!
Finding just the right balance of snacks, treats, or full meals during your day at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure can be tricky. When you’ve got literally hundreds of options, how do you know what foods to try and what to skip? That’s where WE come in. We set out to try five new snacks that can be found at both Disneyland parks to help you make the best dining decision before you need to decide on a hungry stomach. Let’s take a look at everything we tried!
We will begin our treat roundup with the glorious Banana Split Churro! We picked this one up at the Cozy Cone Motel for $6.79. It’s a churro cut in half that’s rolled in banana sugar with peanut butter-chocolate sauce and pineapple-strawberry drizzle, with whipped topping and a cherry.
We actually really loved this churro and felt all those sweet flavors went together perfectly. Basically, imagine a banana split sundae distilled into a handful of toppings atop a churro. The banana flavor is pretty light since all the sauces cover the sugar. The flavors were pretty balanced between peanut butter, chocolate, and strawberry. We didn’t taste any strong pineapple here, but some bites hinted at that tart pineapple taste. The whipped cream added some additional sweetness to the middle of the churro.
We think you’d enjoy this one if you’re someone who loves sweet and chocolatey treats (bonus points if you’re also a churro fan already!) However, if you lean more to the side of someone who just isn’t into chocolate or peanut butter, you probably wouldn’t be as jazzed to try it out.
Then it was time to move on to San Fransokyo Square to try out the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding. We picked this treat up from Aunt Cass Cafe for $7.29. It’s made of pineapple chunks, cherries, pineapple custard, caramel creme anglaise, and pineapple-flavored whipped topping.
The bread pudding itself was warm and soft with a rich caramel flavor, but the pineapple whipped cream was our favorite part of this one. It was a bit of a sweet vanilla flavor mixed with pineapple. The caramel creme anglaise added a rich caramel flavor that got soaked up into the bottom of the cake. It surprised us that this wasn’t really tart at all (it was mostly sweet!).
You’ll need to be a big pineapple fan to enjoy this one because that’s going to be the majority of the flavor here, so if that’s not you, this probably isn’t a treat you’ll be itching to try.
Our hunt for another sweet street took us over to Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream for the Butter Cake. This one is made of a cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream for $6.99.
While we were initially excited to try this one, it was a bit of a letdown. The strawberries were fresh and full of flavor, and the whipped cream had a light texture and sweet vanilla flavor, but then we discovered that the cake itself wasn’t that good. The cake wasn’t warm or soft. The flavor was kind of bland (not buttery like we had hoped) and just a little on the sweet side. When tasting this one, the main flavors were whipped cream and strawberries.
The cake here just didn’t do it for us or seem to have much flavor. If you’re looking for a rich dessert that’s not all about the toppings, this won’t be the treat for you. It’s probably not worth the money or your time when so many BETTER Disneyland treats exist.
Last but certainly not least, our visit to Disneyland took us out to Hungry Bear Restaurant. Here, we tried the Cranberry Lemonade and the Churro Funnel Cake.
Let’s talk about the Churro Funnel Cake first! This one cost us $11.99 and is made of cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream (in the shape of a hidden Mickey), and whipped topping.
This snack was one of the BEST we’ve had here recently. We liked that this snack stuck to being just a fairly simple treat relying on just the cinnamon funnel cake, vanilla, and caramel. There’s not a whole lot going on, but it has everything it needs. No need for any weird extras or seemingly random toppings. The warm funnel cake had a hint of cinnamon and balanced the cold, sweet, and somewhat rich vanilla ice cream. All those classic flavors were mixed with a rich caramel topping and made for a PERFECT treat. Sometimes, it’s best to just keep it simple, right?
To wash it down, we also tried out the Cranberry Lemonade. This drink cost us $6.49 and is made of cranberry lemonade served with lemon juice popping spheres (sounds kind of tart, right?)
If you were thinking that, too, we’re pleased to report that the flavor for this one was pretty balanced between the cranberry and lemonade. It was sweet, and we only detected a tad bit of tartness here. (Shocking, but true!) The popping spheres pretty much tasted like lemonade when they burst. Overall, this was a refreshing and somewhat sour drink with a sweet berry flavor.
This one is still going to lean towards a true lemonade flavor with that mix of sweet and sour, so if you’re not totally giddy about your lips puckering a bit when you take a drink, this might not be the one for you. On the flip side, though, if you enjoy a little tart side to your lemonade drinks, we think this could totally be a winner with you!
We enjoyed pretty much everything we picked up, and we would make another round for most of it again. Need a break from reading? Check out our video below for MORE Disneyland food recommendations.
