ALERT! Genie+ Is Struggling in Disney World Today

Disney World might be the Most Magical Place on Earth, but sometimes things are a little less than magical.

Rides temporarily close. Refurbishments get scheduled. Transportation problems happen. Sometimes, though, it’s Disney’s technology that fails us, which seems to be the issue with the My Disney Experience app this morning. We want to give you a heads up if you’re planning on using Genie+ in Disney World today.

 

Genie+ is part of the My Disney Experience app that you can pay extra for to skip the long standby lines at certain rides and access the Lightning Lanes instead, resulting in shorter waits. It can come in handy when the parks are crowded and save you a lot of time. However, this morning, Genie+ isn’t…well…it isn’t working.

When we opened the My Disney Experience app this morning, we got the following message: “At this time, new selections, purchases, or modifications to Disney Genie+ service features are temporarily unavailable.” That means that if you purchase Genie+, you may not actually be able to use it.

So what should you do if you’d planned on purchasing Genie+ this morning? Well, if you haven’t already purchased it, you may want to hold off until everything is confirmed to be working again. If you have purchased it and can’t use it, you might want to visit Guest Relations in the park you’re visiting to see what your options are.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen problems with Genie+. Back in September, Genie+ was having problems for multiple days where Lightning Lane availability was delayed by an hour each morning. We’ll continue to keep an eye on things, though, and let you know what’s going on with it, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
