92% Of Disney Fans Think Disney’s Making the Wrong Move With This Strategy

Okay, be honest, what do you think of the Disney live-action movie remakes?

We’ve had a lot of them, for sure, with even more on the way. After the release of the live-action The Little Mermaid, we’ve got a few more on the way, including Lilo and Stitch live-action remake and Moana live-action remake. But how do YOU feel about this? Well, we asked you, our DFB readers, and YOU TOLD US.

So 422 of our readers responded to the following question: “Do you think Disney should keep making live-action remakes of their animated films?” Over 92 percent of you came back with a resounding “No!” Yes, you all have some opinions! So let’s see what DFB readers had to say!

Kristin said, “No. None of them have been outstanding. I’d much rather another Tiana movie. Or a new princess all together. Or sequel to some other movie (made within the last 10yrs).”

Princess Tiana

Holly had a little bit of a different take: “No but I wouldn’t mind seeing some different stories on some characters, like the villains. Like what they did with Cruella and Maleficent.”

Michael thought along the same lines:  “I think they need to pull the reigns in on making live action films. If they’re going to make live action adaptations, they need to be an original story very different from the animated classics like maleficent. That also being said, they need to come up with original new films. Thirdly & finally, I feel that they should alternate their film making. Release more 2D animated films.”

Vanessa said, “No. If they want to reanimate them sure. But please no live action stuff. Let’s be more creative.”

Although Edward admitted to liking one of the live-action adaptations, his answer was still a no: “No, I love the animated films. I wish they’d create more live action original content. For me it’s the nostalgia of the animated films they’re classic. I did however like the live action Aladdin.”

However, some of you were on the fence and really commented that it depends. Hannah answered, “I think it depends on which film they pick . Some lend themselves really well to live action, but some need to be left alone. I’m still waiting for Atlantis, emperor’s New groove and sword in the stone 😉 but please don’t do chicken little 🤣 Oliver and the rescuers would be adorable too I think 🙂

Monica said, “Depends. I fell in love with aladdin and lion king as a child so watching them live action as a 30ish year old was an unbelievable treat and perfect way to recreate that magical feeling!!! Timing is everything. ✨

Serinthia commented, “Only if they refer to them correctly. The Lion King wasn’t a live action film. If they make Robin Hood, it won’t be a live action film. These are animated films just like the originals, only made in a different medium.”

On the flip side, some of our readers like the live-action remakes of animated  movies, like Robert who commented, “100% Not sure what people are seeing in these films to hate on them so much. I think they’ve been great.”

Wesley agreed and said, “Yes! It’s just a reimagination of an animated story. And it’s not like we are getting rid of the animated version… it will still be there to enjoy whether you enjoy the live action version or not!”

Linda said almost the same thing: “Yes, because everyone has different tastes. The good thing about any movie, original, animated, live action or remake is that if you don’t want to watch it, you don’t have to.”

So like we said, most of you are kind of over the whole live-action remake thing, although you did have some exceptions were Disney consider live-action remakes of movies like Atlantis (yes, please), Treasure Planet, Sword in the Stone, and some other under-appreciated Disney films.
