New Permits Hint at CHANGES to Disney World Pools and Restrooms

The Disney World you’ll walk into now is NOT the Disney World you once knew.

All kinds of changes have hit or will soon hit the parks — from the opening of new rides and attractions to menu changes and more. Recently, we’ve been taking a look at some Disney World permits to see what changes those could signal, and now we’ve got some MORE updates to share so you’ll know what to expect in the future.

Before we dive in, we want to note that what we’re looking at are technically called Notices of Commencement that have been filed recently relating to Disney projects. What do these notices of commencement mean? Well, they generally indicate that work on these projects could start soon. So let’s take a look at what you might expect.

Pool UPDATES

First up, there have been some permits filed that seem to signal changes at 2 Disney World pools in popular hotels. First, a permit was filed for “mechanical” improvements at 1568 Seven Seas Dr. #A. This address appears to line up with the Oasis Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. That isn’t the BIG/main Lava Pool, but instead is the smaller, more relaxed and quiet pool at the hotel.

The permit doesn’t tell us much about the work other than that it will be “mechanical” improvements and the contractor is Ferran Services. According to a quick online search, Ferran Services appears to be a company that “provides quality and personalized HVAC services.” So it seems the changes may not be anything major, just some improvements, but they could impact pool availability. Disney hasn’t announced a pool closure, but it’s something to potentially watch for.

What’s most interesting about this permit is that the expiration date was specifically listed as April 25th, 2024. So the work here may take a while.

Next up, we found a permit that says there will be some improvements in the “general conditions” for the property located at 1720 EPCOT Resorts Blvd. #D. That address appears to be tied to the Shipwreck Pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. This is not the main Stormalong Bay pool, but rather the smaller one out closer to the edge of the water with a mini waterslide of its own.

Again, the permit doesn’t tell us a whole lot, other than that there will be some kind of improvement made to the general conditions here. The contractor is Electro-Mechanic Industries, Inc. No pool closure has been announced by Disney yet, so this work may not impact your enjoyment of that particular pool area, but it’s something to be aware of.

This is another permit with a far-out expiration date — April 27th, 2024 — so work here could last for quite some time. We’ll definitely be on the lookout for updates.

Restroom Changes

Now, let’s move to the restroom changes because there are some adjustments happening there too. First up, we found a permit where the description of the improvement is “MK-2 Restroom Building.“ The address is 1258 Magic Kingdom Drive, which does appear to likely be somewhere within Magic Kingdom though we couldn’t pinpoint the exact spot.

The contractor is The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. which (according to its website) works on all kinds of projects including ones within the world of hospitality.

What’s interesting about this permit is that the owner listed is not just Disney as a whole but Walt Disney Imagineering specifically. It’s not clear what changes or updates could happen with the restroom at issue, but we’ll be sure to look for any news.

The next permit is for the installation of some signs at a restroom. The address for that permit is 772 Werikhe Way, which seems to be linked to Asia area restrooms in Animal Kingdom.

Again, there’s not a lot of detail here but it is interesting to see Imagineering once again listed as the owner for purposes of the permit. We’ll be on the lookout for any new signs in this area in the coming weeks/months.

BONUS: Monorail Station Construction

As a bonus, we wanted to share another permit we found that seems to tie to the Disney World monorail! The permit describes the improvement simply as providing “labor, material and/or electrical for construction” for 1200 Seven Seas Dr.

This seems to line up with the big monorail station at the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The contractor on this is Buena Vista Construction Company, which is Disney’s internal construction firm. The permit is vague but it could signal some updates around the monorail area, so that’s something to watch for.

Keep in mind that these are just permits signaling potential future changes. We’ll have to see what becomes of them and whether any of those changes are things that really impact the guests in the future.
