16 Rides Were CLOSED in Disney World Today

Unexpected things often happen in Disney World, which is why we always tell you to be flexible with your plans.

Rides malfunction, animatronics disappear, Donald gets replaced by a plant (we’re still laughing at that one), and rides close. Right now, we’re seeing MULTIPLE ride closures throughout Disney World.

Earlier today, a total of 16 rides were temporarily closed in Disney World, and you might notice that many of these rides have something in common.

That something in common is that they were almost all outdoor rides. You see, right now, the Orlando area is under a severe thunderstorm watch. That means that Disney will close ALL outdoor rides as a precaution — this can happen anytime bad weather could be on the way.

That means rides like Astro Orbiter, Test Track, Slinky Dog Dash, Kali River Rapids, and others could be closed in the event of bad weather.

The Astro Orbiter closes when bad weather is on the way.

A total of 16 rides were closed earlier today, but we have noticed that some have since re-opened. However, rides like Astro Orbiter and the Walt Disney World Railroad in Magic Kingdom, as well as the Aerophile in Disney Springs remain closed. The severe weather watch is also still underway, meaning that it’s likely many of the rides that have reopened could close again.

We also learned that the Festival of Fantasy Parade was delayed this afternoon, too, presumably because of the weather.

Parades will also get delayed or canceled in bad weather

For some reason, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT was also closed, but as that ride is indoors, we think maybe Remy just doesn’t like storms much. More than likely, it’s just a coincidence that Remy’s is experiencing technical issues of some kind at the same time.

So it’s good to be idea to always be weather-aware in Disney World, because it could impact your plans for the day. The important thing to do in bad weather is to be flexible and have a backup plan if a lot of your plans involve outdoor rides. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to see which rides are closed, as well as see when they reopen.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train might close in bad weather

So if you ARE in Disney World today, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the weather and the My Disney Experience app because things could change quickly. If the weather does get bad and closes a lot of rides, take the opportunity to take in a show, meet some characters indoors, or do some shopping.
