Why a Random Date in April Will be CRITICAL to the Walt Disney Company
A critical date is approaching for the Walt Disney Company.
For quite some time, Disney has been in a battle with activist investor Nelson Peltz (and Trian Partners). One reporter even called it the “fight for the future of Disney.” Peltz has launched his proxy battle and is encouraging shareholders to vote “withhold” on another board nominee and “for” Peltz, giving him a seat on Disney’s Board of Directors. Disney has made it clear that they do NOT support Peltz’s bid for a seat on the Board. But just when will we know how this battle will end? Well, we’ve got an update!
Shareholders of the Walt Disney Company will vote on Peltz’s attempt to get on the Board and more leading up to the annual shareholder meeting. During the meeting, we should then get key information about how that vote turned out, what’s next for the Disney Company, and more.
And Disney has officially announced that the 2023 annual meeting of shareholders will be held virtually on Monday, April 3rd, at 10AM Pacific Time (1PM ET). You can tune in virtually at https://ift.tt/ZGAtMg7.
In an SEC filing with a letter to shareholders, Disney sent a number of updates about their present situation, their view on Peltz, and more. In it, they also revealed the shareholder meeting date and urged shareholders to vote. Votes are due by April 2nd at 11:59PM ET.
Disney made it clear that this year, more than ever, shareholders’ votes are “very important.” They outlined the various ways shareholders can vote via mail or the internet.
So mark down your calendars for April 3rd, it could be a BIG day for Disney particularly as it relates to Peltz’s proxy battle. Importantly, it’ll also be Bob Iger’s first shareholder meeting since his return to the CEO position, setting the tone for the remainder of his time at Disney.
Plus, during shareholder meetings, Disney often reveals key things about what’s in the works at the Company, and answers key questions from shareholders so you never quite know what information might get shared!
We’ll be covering the shareholder meeting in detail so stay tuned for our full coverage. For more on Nelson Peltz and his battle with Disney, see our posts below:
