“Heartbreaking” Decision Over ‘Star Wars’ Memorabilia Being Reversed

We know a LOT of our readers are Star Wars fans.

We recently noticed Star Wars music playing during Groundhog Day celebrations, and a popular trivia TV show is looking for Star Wars fans for upcoming episodes. Now, there’s also been an update on a Star Wars auction — certain historical memorabilia will no longer be available for bidding.

Peter Mayhew, who played the original Chewbacca, passed away back in 2019. Call sheets, signed letters, and scripts from his time in Star Wars were set to be a part of an auction but now will be returned to his widow, Angie.

BBC News reported that Auctioneer Angus Ashworth was “happy” to return the items to Angie and apologized to the fans who had already shown interest. They said, “Mr Mayhew, who died in 2019, left the newspaper clippings and messages from director George Lucas in the attic of his former home, described by his wife Angie as one of his ‘biggest regrets.'”

Angie reached out to the public via Twitter and said that “mobility issues of her 7ft 3 husband stopped him from retrieving [the items].” She was reportedly heartbroken to see them put up for auction.
