Your Guide to Flight Costs to Disney World For October 2022

Whether it’s flight cancelations, mishandled luggage, or delays — your next flight to Disney World (or anywhere else for that matter) could be complicated.

Travel has been in the news a lot lately

Add flight costs to that and you’ve got a lot to consider before you hop on a plane for your travels. Each month we take a look at the average cost to fly to Disney World in a future month. This month, we’re taking a look at the costs for October. What’s a realistic budget for a flight to the Most Magical Place on Earth in October? Let’s find out.

Our Method

If you’re new to our monthly flight cost posts, here’s a quick rundown of what we do to get to our numbers.

We limit our search to see what it would cost to fly from a few different airports in the U.S. to Orlando International Airport (MCO). We also limit our search to just a few different airlines. Keep in mind that the airline you prefer or the airport you like to fly out of may not be included in our search.

Orlando International Airport

We also restrict our search to flight costs for a limited number of days in the month. We usually look for a flight that leaves on a Thursday and returns on a Monday. For this trip, we looked at a trip that departed on October 13th and returned on October 17th. When we looked at the various Thursday-Monday trips in October, this had neither the most expensive nor the least expensive starting round trip price. It also avoided the Halloween holiday, so you could be at home with plenty of time to trick-or-treat!

(To make this choice and look at those average prices, we looked at flights from JFK/LGA to MCO.)

Keep in mind — your flight cost can vary greatly depending on the dates you pick for your travels, what airline you select, where you’ll be flying from, etc.

Let’s go over a few more technical things quickly:

  • We used Google Flights to get most of our prices, except for the costs associated with Southwest Airlines flights.
  • Costs can change often.
  • All prices are base ticket prices.
  • To calculate our numbers, we looked at the least expensive departing and returning flights for each airline from each airport listed. We then looked at the most expensive departing and returning flights for each. That gave us our numbers for each airline from each airport.

Getting Ready to Fly Soon? Make Sure You’re Budgeting Appropriately

  • There may be additional taxes and fees due (on top of these base ticket prices) when you go to book.
  • The flight times, number of layovers, etc. may not be compatible with your trip plans so keep that in mind.
  • We only picked “Wanna Get Away” tickets for Southwest Airlines (when possible).
  • We stuck to flights that arrived on the same day as their departure (i.e. no layovers that wouldn’t get you there until the following day).
  • All prices are just for 1 person

Pay Close Attention to Flight Costs As They Can Change

The Average Cost

When we look at the numbers together, it looks like the average cost to fly to Orlando in October is around $343.10 on the low end and $954.63 on the high end.

The cheaper flights seem to have INCREASED in cost when compared to the numbers we saw for September, but perhaps this makes sense since October has some more tourist-drawing events as we get closer to Halloween.

The lower-end number is still cheaper, however, than the costs we saw for the “cheaper” flights in August, July, June, and May.

Average Cost to Fly

In terms of the higher-end, that cost is actually LOWER than the “most expensive flight” costs we calculated for September, August, and several other months.

It had been predicted that flight costs will go down this fall, but some predicted that flight costs would then increase in October in November. It seems like that is playing out (at least when it comes to looking at those cheaper flights), but, of course, flight costs can change. Jet fuel prices, demand, capacity, disruptions in flight schedules, and more could all factor into future flight changes.

What Now?

Now that you’ve got a realistic idea of what to budget, what should you do? If the costs are within your budget, you could hop on them now and book your trip. You could also use Google Flights or flight tracking apps to get an idea about when flight costs might dip over the next few days or weeks.

Remember that flight costs change all the time, so you’ll really want to keep an eye out for changes.
