NEWS: Disneyland Magic Key Pass Renewal DATE and Price Increases Announced!
If you are a Magic Key Passholder, there is BIG news you need to know about.
Magic Key Passes (annual passes to Disneyland) began being sold in 2021, some sold out, and later sales were entirely stopped for all pass types. With expiration dates coming up (or already passed), Magic Key Passholders (annual passsholders to Disneyland Resort) had been left “anxiously awaiting word about their renewals,” but now Disney has finally shared an update.
Disney has now announced that NEW Magic Key Passes will NOT be available to purchase at this time. In other words, the pause on new sales for Magic Key Passes continues. But those with existing Magic Key passes will be able to renew into one of the passes being made available for this year.
Disney specifically notes that the “quantity of passes and pass types available for renewal or purchase may be limited and passes or a pass type may not be available from time to time or at any given time,” so that’s something important to keep in mind.
Disneyland’s Magic Key website also specifically notes that “The Magic Key program provides reservation-based admission to one or both Disneyland Resort theme parks.”
New to the programs this year, Magic Key holders will be able to get 20% off the purchase of Genie+ when using their pass for park admission, discounted standard parking at the Toy Story Parking Lot for both Enchant and Imagine Key passes, unlimited PhotoPass digital downloads for the Inspire and Believe Key passes (note that this is “coming soon”), and some other perks.
Disneyland also points out that there are additional benefits to the Magic Key pass, including special discounts and “magical extras.”
One important thing to note is that while the Dream Key used to be a pass type that was available, it will NOT be available for renewal this year.
Dream Key holders can continue to enjoy some benefits until their passes expire, but this key will NOT be available for purchases or renewals.
Instead, the new Inspire Key will take its spot as the most expensive key type. This key will feature “reservation-based admission” to the parks subject to the availability of park reservations and “applicable pass blockout dates.” This pass will cost $1,599.
When first introduced as the most expensive key, the Dream Key cost $1,399 per person, so this is a significant price increase compared to that previous version.
The next pass available to renew into is the Believe Key. This will be priced at $1,099 and will have reservation-based admission as well, subject to applicable blockout dates and Park Pass availability.
Again, this is a price increase over the $949 price the Believe Key was introduced at last year.
There is then the Enchant Key at $699. This is the same price as it was last year.
And finally, there is the Imagine Key, exclusive to Southern California Residents living within specific zip codes. It is priced at $449. Previously, this key was priced at $399.
Here’s a side-by-side breakdown of the first two passes…
…and the second two, obtained from Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) via Twitter.
Gustin notes that ALL passes now have blockout dates. No pass will be available all 365 days of the year. You can visit the Disneyland blockout dates website to see the applicable blockout dates for each pass. The image below displays blockout dates for the Inspire Key.
Magic Key renewals will open on August 18th no earlier than 9AM. According to Gustin, a virtual queue system will be used.
What if your pass has already expired or will expire before August 18th? You’ll be able to call Disneyland anytime between August 18th and August 31st to renew your pass, according to Gustin.
According to Gustin, there is a new 30-day renewal period being introduced as well, which is important to keep in mind if your pass won’t expire until a bit later.
A note for current MK holders:
Inside 30-day renewal window: You can upgrade or downgrade to another tier.
Outside 30-day renewal window: No changes to Magic Key unless new passes become available for sale again. At that time, you can upgrade outside the 30-day renewal window.
