Disneyland Magic Key Renewals Now LIVE — But You’ll Have to WAIT

Disneyland’s annual pass system — called Magic Key — has been the subject of some controversy lately.

Magic Key Lounge

There’s currently a multi-million dollar lawsuit from a Magic Key passholder against Disneyland regarding blockout dates and the park pass reservation system. Earlier this year, Disneyland paused the sale of all Magic Key passes, which left passholders “anxiously awaiting word about their renewals.” A couple of days ago, Disneyland finally announced that passholders will be able to renew their Magic Key passesand renewal opens TODAY (August 18th).

Starting today, Magic Key passholders can renew their Magic Key passes. (Note that new Magic Key passes will not be available for purchase — this change is only for existing Magic Key passholders.) Renewal opened at 9AM PT, and it looks like Disneyland is using a virtual queue on the website for this process.

When we went to the website to renew, we first saw the introduction page shown above, and then around 9:10AM PT we were moved into the virtual queue. The page said that we will have 10 minutes to enter the site once it’s our turn to renew, and we had over an hour to wait before it would be our turn.

The page also reminded us that “being in the queue does not guarantee the ability to renew any Magic Key pass.” So even if you’re in the virtual queue, the available passes could run out before it’s your turn.

When Magic Key passes for Disneyland went on sale in 2021, they sold out fairly quickly. Disneyland noted on the Magic Key website that “Magic Key pass availability is limited.” It’s possible that the renewals will sell out as well, so we recommend heading to the Magic Key website to renew your pass ASAP.

Welcome back, Magic Key Holders! This lounge is just for you!

Passholders can renew into one of the Magic Key passes that are being made available this year:

  • The Inspire Key — $1,599
  • The Believe Key — $1,099
  • The Enchant Key — $699
  • The Imagine Key — $449 (exclusive to Southern California residents living within specific zip codes)

Note that the Dream Key will not be available for renewal this year. Dream Key holders can still use their passes until they expire, but the Key is not available for purchase or renewal. Disney has also announced that all of the Keys are subject to the “availability of park reservations” and “applicable pass blockout dates.”

There are a couple of new perks for Magic Keys holders this year, including a 20% discount on Genie+, discounted standard parking at the Toy Story Parking Lot (for the Enchant and Imagine Keys), and unlimited PhotoPass digital downloads (for the Inspire and Believe Keys).

If your pass has already expired (before August 18th), you can call Disneyland any time between August 18th and August 31st to renew your pass. There is a new 30-day renewal period being introduced as well, which is important to keep in mind if your pass won’t expire until a bit later.
