Why Your Disneyland Ticket Could Cost MORE Soon

You may not know that the way Disneyland Resort operates is different from how Disney World works!

Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland

Unlike Disney World, which has historically had its own county government in the form of the Reedy Creek Improvement District (which is complicated right now), Disneyland Resort is located in the City of Anaheim in California and subject to the city’s government, which prevents them from having the ability to self-govern. Now a new tax ordinance is being proposed by the city and it could impact Disneyland ticket prices in the future.

According to a proposed ordinance by the Anaheim City Council, they are currently considering an admissions tax that would require attendees to pay more on admission to venues in the city that can accommodate 15,000 or more people. This 2% tax would impact entertainment and sporting events, and it could affect guests visiting Disneyland Resort.

This ordinance will be discussed at the next Anaheim City Council meeting on July 19th, 2022, and if approved, Anaheim residents will be able to vote on it this November. This could also affect sporting events at Angel Stadium.

Right now, ticket prices for Disneyland vary depending on the number of days you’re visiting, with 1-day tickets beginning at $104. If you want a Park Hopper ticket, you’re looking at an additional $60 per ticket.

Ticket prices vary depending on the date and time of year, so you often see prices higher than $104. During a peak visiting time like summer, tickets range from $104 all the way to $164. With a 2% tax on admission, you’d be looking at an additional $2 on a $104 ticket, or an extra $4 on a $164 ticket.

It doesn’t seem like a huge impact on ticket prices but when every penny counts that extra $4 per ticket can make a difference! We’ll be watching this developing situation closely, so stay tuned for more news and details. Keep following DFB for all your Disney World and Disneyland news!
