Watch Out for These 8 Construction Updates in Disney World

When was the last time you visited Disney World? Chances are it looks a little different now.

EPCOT is under construction

Change is nearly everywhere you look — both in the parks and beyond — and it can be hard to stay updated on every little thing. From bigger changes like new attractions and restaurants to smaller updates like a new sidewalk or a freshly painted storefront, we keep track of it all so you don’t have to. If you’re heading to Disney World soon, check out the biggest construction updates from this week so you’re prepared for your next visit!

Magic Kingdom

Main Street, U.S.A.

Heads up if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom in the near future — there’s some pavement refurbishment happening on Main Street, U.S.A. A small area has been roped off so you’ll have to walk around for now.

We’re not quite sure what’s going on here or how long this will last, so stay tuned for more updates!

TRON: Lightcycle Run

The pace is starting to pick up over on TRON, we spotted some additional walls go up near the Walt Disney World Railroad train tunnel. Not only that, but we got an update on the backstory of the ride! Sam Flynn, the main character from TRON, is opening a gateway to the digital world in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom! The attraction queue will make guests feel as if they’re being digitized and entering the Grid for a Lightcycle race, too.

Construction is chugging right along

Unfortunately, Disney didn’t share any details on the opening timeline for this ride, but you can be sure we’re keeping an eye out for updates!

EPCOT

Mitsukoshi

The Pick-a-Pearl area of the Mitsukoshi store in the Japan Pavilion has been closed for quite a while, but now it’s completely blocked off by black tarps.

We’re not sure what exactly is going on in this area or how long it will be blocked off, so stay tuned for updates.

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana

The Moana attraction is coming together over in EPCOT, and the rock formations are finally taking shape! You can see the largest main rock formation on the right side of this photo.

In addition to Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza will be joining this area of EPCOT as well!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Mania Gift Shop

The Toy Story Mania gift shop has been closed to make way for something Disney hasn’t decided to share with us yet — so for now, guests are being required to exit via a detour instead of the gift shop.

We’re also anticipating a NEW restaurant in Hollywood Studios as well — Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ is set to open later this year!

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The Polynesian is undergoing quite a bit of construction to make way for a HUGE expansion that will include new hotel rooms, dining options, and even merchandise locations!

The Spirit of Aloha building had to go in order for the expansion to begin, and you can see what that demolition looks like in the below photo.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2024, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way!

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas

There’s a bit of sidewalk construction taking place on Disney’s BoardWalk. It looks like some of the planks are being replaced in front of Flying Fish and Abracadabar.

Disney hasn’t shared plans for this area or how long this construction will last, so stay tuned for more updates!

Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort

The construction over at Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort is still going strong — but don’t worry, you can still swim.

In addition to the pool construction, we also spotted some refurbishments taking place on the boardwalk between the two resorts.
