What to Do If You Can’t Get the Disney World Hotel Reservation You Wanted
Disney has a lot of hotels, so you would think that rooms would almost always be available, right? WRONG.
Disney hotels get booked up, and you might have your heart set on staying at a certain Disney resort, only to find out that it’s not available during your vacation time. But, don’t worry – we’re here to tell you what to do if you can’t get the Disney World hotel reservation you wanted!
Keep Checking Back
The first tip is pretty simple — just keep looking! If the first time you check for the hotel you want doesn’t yield any results for you, just look back a few days later. Or, better yet, check every day! People do cancel their reservations, and things can open up.
This would also be a great time to have or use a travel agent so that they can keep checking for you, instead of you having to continuously look yourself. Remember, travel agents are freeeee! Our favorite travel agency to use is Small World Vacations, so be sure to check them out!

Call Disney World
This one is also pretty easy! You can call Disney World’s Resort Hotel Reservations line at (407) 939-1936 and ask to speak to a Reservations Agent. They should be able to help you out and double check if anything is available.
We’ve had situations where these agents were able to find us a room that isn’t listed on the website when we were in a pinch, so it’s worth a shot! And, if they can’t find anything the first time you call, you can try calling again in a few days.

Try a Similar Hotel
Listen, we know you had your heart set on that ONE Disney World hotel, but there are a ton of great options on property! You can try to get a room at a similar hotel that will meet your same needs.
Say you want to stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort because it’s on the Monorail loop, but it’s booked. Well, there are 2 other awesome hotels that also have access to the Monorail. You can stay at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! So, you have 3 options for places to stay when it comes to being on the Monorail loop.
And, if you just want a hotel that’s close to Magic Kingdom, you can also look for rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, which is just a short boat ride away.
The same general theory works for the EPCOT resorts, as well. If you can’t get into the BoardWalk Inn, try the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and vice versa. You can also look for rooms at the Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve, which are also right there within walking distance to EPCOT (and Hollywood Studios). These aren’t Disney-owned hotels, but they get a ton of the same benefits and can sometimes end up being less expensive!
If you want a resort on the Skyliner, like the Riviera Resort, but it’s all booked up, try for another one! Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, and Pop Century resorts all have direct access to the Skyliner as well.
If you’re looking for a hotel with a similar price range to the one you originally wanted, that’s easy! Disney separates their hotels into different levels. There are Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Deluxe Villa resorts. So, you can pick a resort that’s still in your price range using this system.
If you want similar vibes and ambiance to the original hotel you wanted, you can usually find that at Disney World, too! If you want beachy vibes like at the Polynesian but it’s booked, go for Caribbean Beach resort instead.
If you want to feel regal and fancy like at the Grand Floridian but there are no rooms available, try out the Riviera Resort or the BoardWalk Inn.
Yacht and Beach Club also have similar vibes, and they’re connected to each other, so you’re in the same location!
If you want to feel like you’re out in the woods, you can try the Treehouses at Saratoga Springs or the Cabins at Fort Wilderness.
There are a lot of ways to still get the same vibes at different hotels in Disney World!
Book a Backup
If you can’t get the hotel you want, you could book a backup Disney World hotel. You might be able to modify your reservation later to the hotel you wanted originally!
But, even if you can’t, you can still get a backup so that you don’t won’t to be left without any options, especially if you’re planning a vacation for a popular time of year.
You CAN cancel Disney hotel reservations. If you do it at least 30 days before your arrival date, you can get a full refund and if you cancel 2-29 days before your arrival date, you can get a full refund minus a cancellation fee of $200. If you cancel 1 day or less before your arrival date, you cannot get a refund.

Check Secondary Sites
You can also look on other travel sites like Expedia, Kayak, Booking.com, etc. Sometimes they have reservations that will show up on their sites that aren’t listed on Disney’s website!
But, if you do book through one of these sites, make sure you’re able to connect your reservation to your My Disney Experience account before you go. That way, you can use all of the app’s features as a Disney hotel guest and you can 200% confirm what you booked is legitimate.
Book a Disney Springs Hotel or the Swan & Dolphin
There are a lot of great hotels either on property or very close by. There are several Good Neighbor hotels that Disney works with to give a bunch of the same perks to as regular Disney hotel guests, so it’s worth looking there if you can’t find anything at Disney!
As mentioned before, you can also check out the Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, and Swan reserve, which are on property and are considered Deluxe resorts by Disney, so you get the a lot of the same perks that Deluxe resort guests do like Extended Evening Hours in the parks.
The other great thing about these hotels is that they are usually less expensive than a lot of Disney World hotels!
The bottom line is that you don’t want to pay the same amount of money (or more) for a different Disney-owned hotel that you’re not as excited about. You might as well stay at one of these nearby non-Disney owned hotels and save some money!
But, as we said before, make sure you’re able to connect your hotel reservation at one of these spots to your My Disney Experience account before your trip.
Rent Disney Vacation Club Points
Did you know you can rent Disney Vacation Club points? Well, you can! If you can’t find the hotel you’re looking for, see if you can rent DVC points that would allow you to stay where you want.
Disney Vacation Club resorts are the Deluxe Villa resorts on property and you can rent points from DVC members to stay in rooms for less than what Disney is listing them as!
We recommend renting points through our friends over at David’s Vacation Club Rentals!

Overall, don’t panic if you can’t get the hotel you want right away – there are a lot of other options! This could be a great opportunity to save some cash or to check out a hotel you might have not considered before.
